Don't forget the benifit of having an SLR is that you have the the choice of whatever lense you want. If his $300 camera comes with a slow lense, big deal. With the money he saves over a D70 or something he can get a very good lense to replace it.
I have a Fujifilm s5200 5.1 megapixel "prosumer" camera. I'm happy with the pics I can take with it so far. But it still doesn't compare to some things you can do with the slrs, especially the shutter delay. I figure that once I have the skill to use this camera for all it's worth, then I'll upgrade to the latest Nikon or Canon.

lol..the d50 is not "very outdated" at all. Its image sensor is newer than the D70/D70S and its still capable of amazing pictures in the right hands
I hate people who automatically think the "older" models are some how lose their outstanding abilities once a new body comes out
The d50 is a great bang for the buck dSLR.

I swear to god, I would just point and snap, and the ****en camera would take care of the rest. No matter the lighting, the distance, etc, it always made the shots look hot...

As I've said before. DONT BUY AN SLR CAMERA. ANY SLY Camera.
Choose a LENS SYSTEM that meets your needs and has the depth you want, and then choose a brand and model of body that fits with that.
Do you HONESTLY think that the lens in the Kodak is a decent lens? Its not, not when compared to a decent Nikon or Canon (or hell, even Tamrac) lens.

what are you talking about?!?!?
So what your saying is... that Kreuznach Schneider optics are nothing compared to a "decent" Nikon or Canon... and TAMRON. Tamrac is an accessory manufacturer... mainly camera bags FYI.
While its true that many low end and entry level kodak's dont sport the schneider optics system... the camera that aaron asked about does feature this lens. and dont even think about talking **** about schneider lenses... they've been around as long as canon and nikon optics... actually even longer. i mean yes... there are many lenses out there that can easily out perform the schneider lens... but you still oughta give credit where deserved....
in short... Kodak DOES use quality lenses in specific models.
/end.
