What do you guys think?

I'm getting this tattoo'd on my back today... Just wanted to get any last second opinions from people. A couple people said it was racist, but it isn't. Thats the german federal eagle with the WWII croatian coat of arms.

It'll be like 6x7" on my upper middle back. A friend and I drew this up... thats the finalized version I suppose, well, unless someone can point out something that can be imporoved on.

Have you checked with your Tattoo parlor/guy first? Many times I tried designing Tattoos, just to be told some sections had too many details and wouldn’t look right. Guess it depends on the size – like in between the top and lower wing..maybe there isn’t enough space and that outline won’t show?

Looks killer tho…Like the fact that you only used 2 colors. I also want to get either my upper or lower back done. But I can’t seem to be able to decide on a design. I want to get some Haida custom drawing (in Black and red only) by an a real native artist and get that done.

What tattoo shop do you go to?

Well, its a little symbolic for me. Half of my family was wiped out in WWII in Croatia by allied forces... Thats why I used the WWII Croatian coat of arms.... I was born in Germany and brough up there (and still have a ton of family there... some alive, some not)... So naturally the eagle is carrying the coat of arms. The eagle is a symbol of strength, and the coat of arms is a symbol of unity/strength/family.

What tattoo shop do you go to?

My friend goes to one in Berkeley that he swears by. They did one of his and it looks pretty damn good. Its pretty simple though, like mine (not crazy designs or anything).

Thanks for the compliment though!

I've been to Marks Of Art off Union Avenue in San Jose for my last two tatts...but I haven't been there in over a year now, so I'm not sure if they changed artists since. But Lex (guy that was on Survivor) used to work here, and he's the one that had suggested that place. So I went there every weekend for like a month to watch them work before i committed to the place. My artist was Justen and I was pretty happy with the quality of work.

Nice. I haven't even been to my tattoo parlor... lol. My tat isn't complex though... any competent artist can do that. I am going to ask the artist to change the legs a tad, asI suck at photoshop and can't make them look anymore aggresive... hehe. (That whole thing is a photoshop job. PS Elements actually )

Would be easier to modify in Illustrator tho - for hard edge images it's usually better to use a Vector based application. But like you with PS, I struggle with Illustrator

Edit: and what's funny about parlor?

I think it's rad for one reason. It means something to YOU. that's what is important.

Do be aware that people WILL think that it's racist. I have a t-shirt with a similar design..but the eagle is holding an "E". for this band called Envain. singer is black. hardly think it's racist but everytime I wear it someone says it. I don't care. I'm german as hell..my freaking last name is EGELHOFER. What of it..haaa.

I think it's rad.

Two things.
1. Wear are you going to get it done and who's doing it?
2. You might consider increasing the white space in the lines. those can blur out some in later years and if you don't have enough space you'll have a black blop...especially if the tattoo artist isn't the best.

Edit_ not sure how many of my german family members were lost in WWII but my 1st generation Grandfather fought for Alied...was shot down a month after they released him to go home and a month before the war was over. That destroyed my family. Literally. different kind of destruction than yours but still destroyed.

Thanks!

I'm getting it done here: http://www.industrialstrengthtattoo.com/
I guess they do good work from what I hear (from other people) from their website.

I was thinking about the space thing... I was going to ask the artist about that... He'll probably space it out a tad more.

And if EGELHOFER isn't a German last name, I don't know what the hell is! lol

This explains your obsession with da guns.

That is an awesome tattoo in my opinion, it has meaning that is more then skin deep.
I have wanted some bad *** tattoos myself, but can't think of anything that has meaning accept bible scriptures that have helped me, and I want graphics. =)

EDIT:
In Santa Cruz there is StairCase Tattoo on Ocean St. , F U Tattoo on Capitola Road, and True Art on Soquel Dr.
These are the places I recommend in SC.
