What coolant should I use?

Probably another dumb question, but I actually was surprised I couldn't find much by searching on this subject.

Anyways, I gotta drain the coolant this weekend for the new turbo install. I have an 07 WRX. Which coolant should I use? and where can I pick some up today or tomorrow in the bay?

I guess my options basically come down to Prestone, Subaru OEM, Subaru conditioner???, or I have one of those little bottles of Redline water wetter concentrate sitting at home.

I think you will have different opinions on this subject. Many will say use oem subaru coolant only, but realistically that is always not the case. I use oem subaru coolant if it's available but if not prestone 50/50 mix would be fine along with the bottle of redline water wetter.

Cool, that's what I was leaning. So I know you work in parts. You guys open late today or tomorrow? How much do I need and is the "conditioner" I heard about a separate addition I need? Or is it mixed into the Subaru stuff already?

Thanks!

I've topped my coolant with prestone and have had no ill-effects whatsoever. Idk about mixing prestone AND redline concentrate. What I did when I used to race my r6 was run a 50/50 of redline concentrate and water by itself.

That's what the farmer said when his cow died.

Flush the entire system & refill with SOA's Blue Coolant; worry free for 105k.

Yup, that's what I plan on doing. Already called my local dealership. They have it, but they said it's already premixed 50/50, costs $32 a gallon x 2 gallons, and doesn't need the conditioner? Does this sound right? and does it sound too expensive? I found the super coolant online at a dealership for $22 a gallon.

Plus shipping and possibly tax. It's a hazardous material so I wonder if they'd actually ship it.

Ya probably. So $32 a gallon picked up is reasonable? and I need two gallons, correct?

use subaru OEM. Use the LONG LIFE "BLUE" coolant. Its good for 100k vs 30k stock green. Make sure you flush it VERY WELL to get all the green out prior to adding the blue. If you mix green/blue it only lasts 30k as well.

I had to fill + drain my coolant with water ~ 5 times before i got clear water draining back out again. I added the long life blue + OEM conditioner, and now all is good :-)

Ya, something like $32 a gallon, but last over 3 times longer than the green stuff so it's more like $10 a gallon in the long run.

Or your paying extra for the dye. Either ways you can't go wrong the oem coolant.
