That's fine for one kid. Talk to me when you have two and they're old enough to want to bring friends places. Not to mention two car seats, etc. etc. Plus, most of my family is in town and there are tons of times when it'd be great to have a seven seat vehicle instead of taking two vehicles.
I like your jump from a Forester to a Suburban. The last time I checked, there are a number of vehicles between the two in size.
We're close to pulling the trigger on an AWD Toyota Sienna minivan, but the Exiga has been a vehicle that could keep us in something fun:

My parents have a 2012 I think it is suburban. Maybe a 13. That thing is freakin nice and the mileage isn't all that bad.
I towed my caddy from watsonville to millbrae. Then towed the trailer to Union City then drove back home... Something like $50 in gas. And you can run E85 if you want.
Most of those midsize ones are garbage.
When you're talking about 2 kids and friends and going places... those aren't going to fit in the smaller cars for long anyways.
Mini vans are cool if you can stomach owning one. My sister has a dope mini van. Flat floors. Mad space. Flexible space. TV's for the kids. Storage. Etc.
But she also has 3 kids under 6.
I grew up in a family with 4 teens... I know space. And my dog takes up a hell of a lot more space than another kid would. LOL!

Jacob.... that was kind of my point.
You don't really NEED that much space. My mom has a suburban. She drives herself around. Her reasoning is... well when we have all the grand kids we need it. It's easier to put crap in at the store. Etc.
In reality she could buy a benz or something to own. RENT a suburban when it's needed a couple weeks out of the year. I've spent years trying to talk her out of her suburbans (she's had 3). I even brought her a GLX350 to test drive. I nearly bought it. LOL! 15mpg is why I didn't. I can buy a suburban and get 20. LOL!
Yes it sucks to go on trips with the kid and the dog. We'll hopefully have another kid and another dog at some point. We'll evaluate a new car then. But for now the forester is fine. Sure more space would be nice and it takes a while to pack wisely but it works and it's fine.
We don't take my car on trips. We could. But we don't. There's just not much room for the kid in the back seat. It's fine for around town but trips... no way. And it's loud and has no stereo.
People always think about the rare occassions when buying cars. When they're driving to oregon or whatever. I don't get that. Buy what works 95% of the time. Rent something for the other 5%.
Now if you travel every weekend with 3 teenagers and 2 dogs... yeah you probably aren't gonna want a small car... and in that case... you don't buy a subaru.
They just don't build big cars. That's what Chevy is for. LOL!

There are a lot of vehicles between but quite honestly... for the most part it's not worth it.

And in case you missed it... I hope they make this thing. I think it's a great idea. To me it really comes off like they're bring a real WRX wagon back. I'd go look at one.
I do think they're missing this in the line now that I think about it more.
They used to have the impreza. Smaller.
Then it went to the legacy. Longer. Big more room. Not super big.
Then the forester. Bit bigger and taller. Not super big.
Tribeca. The biggest.
Now...
Impreza. Small
Forester. Tall.
Outback. Huge.
There's nothing in that size anymore... where the WRX wagon or the Legacy GT wagon used to be. I love that. I want one. It's part of why I still have my car. Hatch is too small for me.
I think this has a lot of potential. I just don't see why it should be a different name.
But i honestly need to read more about it.

Yeah, but the rest of the time you're driving a huge *** Suburban with all of the problems of that size vehicle in an urban environment.
I'm not sure why people question owning a minivan when most SUVs handle worse and are much less utilitarian. Hell, I'd probably do more "off roading" in an AWD Sienna than most SUVs on the road. If one's concerned about one's "man credit" then they obviously feel pretty damn insecure and should deal with that posthaste.
Yeah, but your dog doesn't need a stroller, port-a-potty, multiple bags of sh|t, etc.

LOL!
Agree on all points.
Babies take up mad space. These days my kid gets one bag. My wife... well she brings enough for everyone. LOL! My dog is just spoiled.
As for man cred.... my grandparents used to buy that AWD crystler mini van. The caddy of minivans... every 2 years. The old one went to grandpa. New one to grandma.
Well they had an old one. I wrecked my truck and was out of a car for a while. They let me borrow it because it was a spare.
I pulled the middle seat out. Had just the back seat and front seats. Think I was like 21 or something like. Can't remember. Anyways... that thing was bad ***. I tried to buy it off them but they gave it to my little brother instead. LOL! He broke it.
My sister has the nissan minivan I think it is. That thing is dope. Not for me.. but dope.
