I am surprised that the tire place even mounted those tires on those rims for that chode....not to mention that it is actually holding air. WOW

This I dont see, how does this eliminates rubbing issues on super low cars? That pic clearly shows that the tire will rub if the suspension is compressed....even IF the tire didnt rub....that rim would tear the crap out of dude's fender.

Think of it this way, if the wheel were 1" instead of say 17" there is a smaller chance of it rubbing. Stretching tires simply makes the wheel/tire combo take up less space. Some stretching is ok like 225/40 on a 17x9, just as an example, but stretching it to the point where the bead no longer makes contact as in the picture is stupid.

All the mexican's in Sunnyvale called, they want their rims/tires back.

x 1000.

stretched tires are about as cool as stretched buttholes.
lol!!!

/\ /\ that I understand and totally agree that its just plain dumb, but the "stretching" makes the tire wider than its supposed to be, which is where the tire will be rubbing, thats the whole reason why people roll their fenders....so the sides of the tire dont rub on the fender when the suspension is compressed....but stretching the sidewalls like in the pic, push the sides of the tire beyond the edge of the fender, thus making tire rub pretty much a solid bet. The ONLY thing I could possibly think of, that would help prevent tire rub...would be the fact that by pushing the sides of the tire out, you are making the total diameter of the tire slightly smaller, but then you dump the car, so the tires are almost hitting the fender as it is, because now the tire is so wide it doesnt fit under the car, it has to stick out the sides.....so in reality you arent gaining isht, except making your car look like a POS. <shrug>

But the one thing I think is worse than this.....is seeing this type of tire/wheel "package" with 13" gold daytons on a 1972 Caddy land barge

Do they cruise around at like 20mph all the time? How can that be remotely safe to drive at speed? I'd have to figure thats a law suit waiting to happen once you blow a tire and take out the old lady on the sidewalk.

not to mention they are mounted backwards, that should be on the other side of the car,

but... the one on the other side is on the right side,

some people really shouldn't be allowed to operate tire mounting equipment

Okay hmmmm:

1) you're decreasing sidewall flex because you're decreasing sidewall height. How about running a properly-sized (width) tire in the same overall diameter as the stretched tire is once stretched. Same height sidewall, no stupidness.

2) MAXIMIZING contact patch? Are you kidding? You've just made the choice to run a 195 mm wide tire on a rim that can easily fit a 235 and you think you're maximizing the contact patch . That's crazy logic!!! Your contact patch is the tread width... what the sidewall is doing has little-to-no consequence. If the 205 tire were on a 6.5 inch wide wheel instead of an 8 you would have the same contact patch.

3) If that tire were on a properly-sized wheel and hence had near-verticle side walls it would be able to fit inside of the wheel well without issue. Only because the wheel is too wide is it necessary to stretch the tire like that to keep from rubbing. You're creating a rubbing problem with the wheel choice then fixing it with a STUPID tire choice.

----> Gotta admit it: there is NO performance benefit to this AT ALL! This is strictly for style/image and nothing else. It's stupid. In fact, it's worse because you could be running that 205 on a 6.5" wide rim that would weigh 16 lbs but instead you chose to stretch it onto an 8" wide rim that weighs 20 lbs and causes rubbing issues. Stupid.

Jeremy

I know I see some euro cars done up to an extent where it nearly makes since. They seem to like it like that. Low profile. slightly under fit so they can run 19's on their audi's and what not. It seems kinda common and they usually have a point to doing it.

This just looks plain stupid. I didn't realize there was a trend for this. See who can stretch their tires the most? weird. Looks kind of ghetto...watsonville style if you get my drift.

And the crazy thing is some of these cats are running some pretty damn good tires. Like T1s's and stuff like that. Seems rediculous to have a tire rip on you after like 2weeks?

And that one in the picture you guys posted pisses me off. Those are some seriously old school wheels and are freakin awesome. Love those things. My buddy has em on his gti and they are sweet.

Personally...I like more contact patch.
