That's cool but what's the point? You could go a lot faster keeping it straight. I'm thinking of the dreaded R word.

I think about it like this: they lose control to control the car. I know, it sounds weird. Ah, I don't know. It was a spur of the moment thought.

Fugg that... I think Charlie was onto something. It's a totally controlled slide. A shlitty inconsistent tire would never allow them to find the balance necessary to keep those rear tires spinning and sliding while the fronts keep the car on the proper path. The tires don't slide because of lack of traction they slide because the forces which are intentionally put onto them are far beyond what any tire (of the same size/spec) could hold.

Dave's just pissed cuz he can't slide 'em like I do.

Now I'm gonna run and hide before he calls me out and blows my doors off.

ok so are you captain obvious or is charlie bottom line, whats faster.... i bet its not drifting. next, line up, sure its fun to drift and what not, but youre never gonna see a good door to door race with drifting (i mean, who watches sprint car etc anyway).

and yes, i'm calling you out... WANNA RACE?

Funked didn't find it quite so obvious, so I was just tryin' to be ummm... Helpful or something. I won't try and argue that drifting a track is the fastest way around it, but I think the skills that it builds produce the driver capable of the fastest way around a track. Afterall, who's going to push the tires to their truest limits of adhesion, the guy who's scared to slide his car or the guy who's taking a sip of his Mountain Dew while sliding his car around every corner for fun?

And since you're calling me out without having 4 wheels behind you I must point out that the best of the old WSB riders used to routinely slide their rear wheels a bit around corners... Now imagine that... Two wheel drifting. ***** O STEEL!

Note: I'm not claiming I'VE ever purposely slid the rear wheel of my bike.

well think of what happens when an F1 car loses grip for a fraction of a second at top speed... drifting reminds me of WWF or whatever they call it now. for some its fun to watch and be a part of, but when it comes down to it, the real fighting is done elsewhere, regardless if the WWF teaches any fighting skills

Why are you so obsessed by which is faster? Who cares if drifting is not the fastest way around a track? It's obvious it is not. Drifting has little to do with being fast, it is about cool cars, car control and having a good time and a lifestyle.
It looks like a whole lot of fun to me, more so than driving around a track just to go fast
