UTEC questions/What's the case for getting an accessport?

So let me get this straight. It'll cost me 600 for an accessport and probably another 300 for the tuner. It'll cost me 600 to get a used UTEC that can probably do everything the accesstuner can do?

Well, CAN it do everything the accesstuner can do? I've heard conflicting statements about whether old UTECs can be upgraded to the latest firmware or not. What's the scoop?

UTEC pwns all...IF you know what your doing, IF you can afford the dyno time or have safe, empty roads to road tune, IF you don't mind retuning when the weather changes. IF...
I'm not sure if I answered your question, but that's the basics

the utec will probably blow up your engine quicker. there's a big difference between piggyback / parallel engine management and a reflash.

A UTEC will circumvent the built in protection the stock ECU has for preventing damage from either failure or a bad tune.

UTEC will report false values to the ECU even if something is horribly wrong and the possibility of engine damage is possible. With a reflash, the ECU remains in complete control and if something is wrong, it can take the appropriate steps to make sure nothing gets to the point of failure.

Although, in the correct hands, the UTEC can be as effective as a reflash. When people mess with the UTEC after a professional tuner has finished with the product is when most stuff goes wrong.
