DHL (so far) has damaged the least amount of wheels for us. Their systems need work though, cause 4 wheels can get split and arrive on different days, and that becomes a headache. They're getting better at it.

I'm still not taking this driver off the route you're on." Next time, we'll take smart-*** supervisor up on his offer!

There have been other deliveries since then. I guess we should be grateful. This wise guy is limiting himself to nasty comments.

If it wasn't for this driver I never would have understood the DHL commercials.
part of the problem here is that ups is union and management has limited powers in situations like this...

i know if this had been one of our fedex guys out of my service center someones head would have rolled. this sucks sometimes, cause customers dont remember the drivers name and you get pulled in the office for something you didnt do... (happened to me wednesday)

I guess the biggest advantage would be not having to be forced to work on your days off. I know a lot of guys at our station that are always working on their days off un-voluntarily. And then some routes are way heavier than others, there would be somebody to help complain to management about. There have been lots of complaints but managers don't do isht. If under union, at least they'd be under a little heat.

Another thing would probably be working under paid contracts (like ups does, where they get an automatic raise for the first 3 years) instead of holding performance reviews every 6 months. And then better benefits.

Stuff like that

Yeah i totally agree on routes and work load concerns being dealt with, and benefits could be better as far as our co-pays go (coverage IMO is good tho)

but i still don’t think its worth the fat lazy crack getting our union dues...

and on this mandatory days off baloney, your days off are mandatory, period! if they are making you work on your day off that’s against the labor board/OSHA and i would report it to them... they are hitting companies REAL hard right now for everything under the code and its no joke (BIG FINES) if that’s really happening over there just make copies of your time cards and go straight to CLB/OSHA

California Labor Code states the following:
551. Every person employed in any occupation of labor is entitled
to one day's rest therefrom in seven.
552. No employer of labor shall cause his employees to work more
than six days in seven.
553. Any person who violates this chapter is guilty of a
misdemeanor.

but as with everything eles everyone complains and when its time to take action to change things everyone is to wussy to join the fight

i work for the freight section and i can honestly say we don’t have any route or over working issues at my service center. but i have been to a several other service centers in and outside California and i have seen what your talking about.

.

I maybe should've told ya that most people here work 4 day shifts. They usually have to come in on their 5th day though (their day off aside from the weekend).

Wow, Marshall, you're learning fast ! I don't really mind working my fifth day. Heck it's been going on for 2 years straight next month !
I agree with Edgar though. A lot of the UPS drivers I know aren't happy at all with their union nor their set-up at the station. After almost 9 years, I have come to the conclusion that it's all the same with UPS and FedEx, union or not.
I still think we care more about or packages and customers more than UPS and DHL. Heck, you should see the ghetto DHL drivers I have around my route area !

Huh? Look at GM... Look at most major airlines... Unions had a place in their day, but they have long since become obsolete. Keep workers happy with decent pay, good incentives/benefits, etc. and you won't need 'em.

You think that, but look at non union shops....think Walmart. THATs what happens without unions.

Good pay and good benefits WOULD keep employees happy, but that kind of stuff doesn't happen when the balance of power is entirely with the corporation and not the employee base. Unions bring that power back into check. Granted, some unions suck (teachers union esp.), but overall, unions are a GOOD thing.

I didn't say how easy it would be. I actually meant to add; "Unfortunately, several companies today don't."

But, look at companies like Jet Blue, Southwest (the only profitable airlines, both without unions). You're right, there are extreme power diffences in a lot of corporations. However, employees can (and do) affect change. I just don't think unions help bring about this change (it creates more of a "you vs. me" than a "we" situation). Also, with the watchdog groups and media these days, there is a lot of oversight.

Plus, if you're not happy where you're working, find something new.
