Uppipe gut pics, taking Qs

Not that this subject hasn't been beaten to death, but going through the process myself gave me a new perspective...

Probably the messiest gutting job ever seen, but nothing appears to be left inside (nothing that won't give way with a couple of whacks from a hammer and chisel, that's for sure).

If anyone has any questions, shoot em over while the process is still fresh and painful in my mind.

Let me save you a trip into limp mode...don't reinstall the stock EGT sensor...just put a bolt in the hole, and do the resistor mod.

Otherwise, looks great!

Thanks Eric!

In fact, I was shopping around for an M12x1.25 bolt today, but the shortest Ace carried was 40mm. I don't have any cutting tools available, so I'm on the lookout for 10, 12, 15, or 25mm bolts Where did you pick up yours?

I couldn't find anything shorter than 40. I tried like 5 Kragen's and a couple of PepBoys...large metrics are hard to find. A little work with a dremel and a cut off wheel made it work. I also used high-temp loctite to make sure that sucker wouldn't leak.

Good luck!

Using the stock EGT sensor with a catless uppipe WILL cause it to fail. Do some reading on NASIOC or here. If it fails on the high side, you'll go into limp mode...which means your car will be barely drivable and won't let you go above 3k rpms.

I was just trying to save him the trouble of worrying about it later...just plug the hole before you put the uppipe back in!

Feria Brothers in San Leandro/San Lorenzo

They might have it, they have a huge selection of Metric!

They are off of Doolittle, 4 blocks south from Marina Blvd.

880S, Marina Blvd Exit, go right... do straight until Doolittle, turn left, next lights, turn left and you'll see the shopping center, and the hardware store is in there.

Look at drain plugs. I got a 12x1.25 drain plug at Kragens, fit the EGT bung perfect.

Yeah, everyone so far who posted about "gutting the pipe and successfully leaving the EGT sensor in" had only been running 2-3 weeks. Apparently it WILL fail after that, so why take the chance? I'll plug up the hole with silly putty before reconnecting the sensor

Hey, thanks a lot Gagan! Please don't feel obligated to do so, but if you're in the area, it'd be great to know if they carry it No rush though, I'm gonna take my time before installing the thing!

my egt sensor didnt go crazy on me until 3 months later. anyhoo, plugging it up and doing the resistor mod is a smart thing to do. you dont want bits of the sensor to brake off and go into your turbo.
