a good resume with a lot of keywords. I go through about ~400 resumes a year to screen for summer interns. I only contact about 20 of them through email. and call about 10 of them. Then only about 5 make it pass me and through the interview panel. I don't look at names, university, or location. GPA is the first, but not the only thing. I take anything above 3.0/4.0 on my first pass. Then class level, then course work, then experience. With that said, it's all in your resume...
I also started applying for internship when I was a sophmore in high school. your typical big corporations like Intel, IBM, Sun, HP, Epson, Apple, etc. I got reject EVERY year until I got my lucky break in my freshmen year. Busted my *** off on my first internship and I never had to apply again. I then got multiple offers for return every year after.
Good resume, good course work, and KEEP TRYING!
Sorry for the highjack...

Yeah. It isn't that bad year. I haven't seen a cow since I got here. Choosing a school most depends on what you like. Whatever floats your boat.

I go to davis and i feel that i, as a student, own the town (for lack of a better word). even if im on the outskirts of davis away from the actual campus, i still feel like im at school hanging out with buddies because basically everyone in davis is a student. i find this to be comforting and it always provides me with something to do. you wont be bored in davis as long as you have friends to hang out with. what would you do in sc instead? the beach? well thats not gonna entertain you forever. its the people you surround yourself with that make a college enjoyable or not. dont shoot a school down because you think its in a boring city. imo, sc is pretty boring with all those trees...

I have been here for two years and haven't seen a single cow....
Yeah, it isn't that bad up here. I have to agree, housing is easy to find, businesses are pretty pro-students, and yeah. I like it here. Sure, there isn't anything to do at 1 in the morning, but quite frankly.... I should be sleeping. Come on up and check out the town, campus, and yeah. If you like it, you like it. If you don't, no hard feelings.

The school is good. If you pull good grades I don't think you'll have any issues doing the grad thing. Yes there are hippies, pot heads everywhere. yes there are TONS of very left wing democrats and what not.
But the school is good and the location is killer. parking situation is crappy.
if you come out this way keep me posted. there are a few of us out here in the santa cruz area.

The econ department was rated recently very high on the national level. Sounds like you want econ or just did not know that there was a BME major at Santa Cruz but if I may put in my 2 cents the BME pathway is the way to go. Makes a more well rounded econ student, because of the requirements. I have plenty of friends who have gotten jobs outside the accounting firms and one of the things all the employers said was that it was the well rounded major that made them so appealing. On a side note that is totally not college related. There are the best driving mountains around the school. Just a bonus.

So, don't party too much in school (if you have aspirations of graduate school)... I wish I could go back and change my F in chemistry, freshman year at UCI.

(mainly for the summer vactions w/ my family)
but i want to work in the real world and get some good experiene before i start spitting out the knowledge to young impressionable minds.
so i difinitely want to go to grad school for either econ or get an mba
then start working
OR
just get the masters and then try to get into law school and be a lawyer for a few years then go into teaching profession after i get tired of practicing law.
i have no probs w/ the extra schooling.
those are my options as of now

Bottom line is you can be happy whereever you go, just do you best job chosing based on what you feel strongest about and pick one. Davis is closer to to tahoe, and is more pf a party scene, but santa cruz has a lot to offer too. its a tough choice.
