Two Problems with my WRX (maybe)

I'm new to the group.

For the record, I've got a 2003 WRX with about 20,000 on the ticker. It's had all the scheduled maintenence done by Subaru dealers.

Ok.. two nagging questions (problems?) I have with the car. Maybe this stuff has been asked a hundred times, but bear with me. Thanks...

1) Most noticeable when the car is cold, if I'm coasting to a stop in neutral (i.e. around town, slowing from 35mph, etc.), I hear a sound that sounds like... "Whirrr, whirrr, whirrr". It's a fairly faint sound. But distinct, especially when the car is cold.

Maybe I am being paranoid, maybe it is nothing. Maybe it is just the way the transmission in the car is. Do you guys recognize what I'm talking about?

2) I've noticed when the car is somewhat cold... (although the temp guage indicates it's warm), when you stop the throttle, it doesn't pull "cleanly". Rather, it pulls, but in a "chuggy" kind of fashion. (I don't know how else to describe this).

Again, maybe I am being picky here. It's not panicky chuggy, just... not super smooth acceleration.

It seems to go away after I've been driving for 30 minutes or more. (i.e. it pulls "cleaner")

Keep in mind, neither of these things "just happened". I've actually noticed them almost from week 2. Maybe I'm expecting too much from the car!

Thanks for any input.

I'm confused, just take it to Kevin at Carlsen, and explain what you just posted to him. Haha. Lay off the bong for a while too, jk!

don't listen to these clowns. LOL.

problem #1, i hear sometimes as well. i thought it was my tires or it was a suspension part causing the problem, so i had auto innovations take a look. after a test drive, they concluded that it was just my tires. i'm just gonna let it be since i don't perceive it as a major issue/problem.

as for the 2nd problem, i am not sure if i understand what you're describing. i take it that you're not describing clutch shudder as you didn't mention anything about clutch engagement. if it's a significant concern, take it into the dealer and see if they can reproduce what you're describing to us.

i do agree with the clowns who posted above that the car is not enjoyable to drive when it is cold, but that is to be expected...

Sorry for the confusion. Car noises can be hard to explain, especially in a format such as this.

The "Whirring" noise I'm describing seems to come from the transmission--it doesn't make the noise when it's engaged. There's no way it could be the tires. The "whirrr" noise is similar to say... if you swung something around and around on a string... like a tennis ball. (Make sense?) The noise kinda oscillates.

As far as #2 goes, regarding the "chugginess" of the acceleration... It's almost like it's a turbo thing (maybe it's not warmed up enough?). I have no idea. Hard to explain I guess.

Also, who is Kevin at Carlsen?

Gracias.

kevin is one of the mechanics at carlsen subaru. he is very competent and is also a subaru enthusiast; he's on the forums too.

I don't think he posts anymore, he used to be on the old I-club under CKevin.
