turbo-back install -- need quick advice!

Yes, I know this is the wrong forum, but I'm much more in need of an immediate response. (as I am already late for work).

I'm most of the way through the install, but there are two problems.

1) The 02 sensor doesnt reach to the port anymore.

2) The turbo heat sheild seems to no longber fit.

Are either of these important or should I just finish it off as is. Its a Vishnu turbo-back if that helps.

Thanks!

I'ts probably OK for the ride to work and back. You might throw a cell. No biggie.

Might want to try to get that sheathing stuff for high temp metal. Just wrap it around, they sell it at Kragens. The o2 sensor thing I don't know... it SHOULD be reaching..

1) the o2 sensor in the cat can be a PITA but you must create all the possible slack you can by pulling off the wire from those clips around the tranny area. If you have a 4eat automatic tranny you probably won't have enough slack to reach the bung anyway because the tranny is wider so disconnect the O2 at the female/male connection area, put the O2 sensor in the bung and tighten it down, then finally secure both loose ends with zip ties and deal with it later. You'll get a CEL but it WON'T affect anything until you get more time to work on it.

2)If you're late for work already forget about the heatsheild for now and leave it off while you goto work...you'll have a heat soaked IC but oh well... you pretty much have to deal with it for one day. Take it easy though. once you get back homw and have more time you'll need to trim it with a dremel or tin snips until it fits the DP

I was in the same situation as you one day too. I thought i could do a quick TBE install

Well im just going to work from home. I had already snipped all the places the O2 sensor was connected too, and its still way short, by 4-6 inches. I'm not to worried about a CEL as I always have one (unichip.) I'm going to I-speed monday, too bad they are not around today.

I'm down to the intercooler re-install and of course, am stuck there too. bah.

In the winter weather probably not but you'll get a little more heat soaking on in the summer i can imagine. it's there for a reason

If you have a TMIC the factory turbo heat shield serves a useful purpose. Helps prevent really bad heat soak.

The heat shields around the uppipe serve a similar purpose. This is why the passenger-side engine mount has a sheet metal piece and the driver's side doesn't - the exhaust goes close to the mount on the passenger side.

Subaru usually puts stuff there for a reason. Parts left off cost nothing and cause no service problems. - Charles 'Boss' Kettering.

EDIT: There are only three 'p's in uppipe.

Well, I got everything back together and a short ride everything sounded fine. A ride to work revealed a pssssh sound from the engine bay and a slight loss of boost. I'm assuming I have a leak at the downpipe.

I used a new gasket but should I have done more? Is there any shops open late tonight / early tomorrow that could fit me in? I'd love to work on it more but I can tell I'd just be spinning my wheels and tearing up my hands more.
