Friend's car got in the the parking lot. Need advice quick.
Well my friend was sitting in her car when another car hit her when they were trying to park. She said his paint is on her car with slight scratches that might be able to buff out.
Should she get the report filed by the police while they're both there or should she just take pictures and forget about it?
I guess the guy said he had a bunch of tickets and begged her not to call the police. Thoughts on what she should do?

yes get a police report. if she doesnt she is stupid. its not her fault the other guy is an idiot with tickets who doesnt know how to back up his car. if someone opened their door and put a tiny ding or scratch in my car i wouldnt let them leave until i got a police report.
I would probably report it solely because of how suspicious the guilty party seems because of the request not to report it. On the other hand, if the guilty party were offering enough cash to undoubtedly have the car repaired I'd go for that.

Ugh I don't know why I even bother with her.
Well she said her paint was on his car also and she took pics and got down his information and just left. She said that her dad will take a look at it and if they can buff it out all is good but if not they're going to contact him. Smh.
She also said that he had 2-3 other passengers in the car so I have a feeling they're all going to say she hit them and she has no witnesses to prove otherwise.
If it was me that guy would be paying for a painted bumper from the best body shop in town but I guess we all have different priorities.

Well guess Im a little too late for this, but this is what she should have done (and if she did, good). Take pics of the whole setting, how the cars were positioned, the defected areas on both cars, and license plate. Exchange phone numbers (try calling to make sure their cell rings), real names, address, insurance papers policy numb etc. Then if they do accept guilt, then make a written declaration and have both parties sign stating which party is at fault. Date it and all that jazz.
Police usually won't come out to something light like this, unless its a huge accident or someone got hurt. But you can hassle them to come out anyways if it is worth your time to wait. Get all the info you can, because if they try to run, you got more than enough information to track them down.
Nothing crazy about what he said. Even if my car was not washed and dinged on each panel (from previous owners), and another person was at fault to afflict more damage onto my vehicle through dings or scratches and paint transfer; I would still raise hell. Even though Im an automotive exterior specialist, its not like I want to see damage like this because it does more harm to the paint. I prefer regular blemishing to work on and better preserve the condition of the paint.

too late for it, but i would've called it in, and included all the suspicious information - speaking from experience, my dad was side swiped by some guy driving once, he had the same 'please don't call the cops' story; i told dad, get $5k cash to replace the door and panel he f'd up or call the cops, no if/ands about it.
cops were called, guy was unlicensed, uninsured, underage and had alcohol in his system, passenger was owner of car, drunk, uninsured with a warrant.
fk them. anyone who doesnt have the decency to fix a problem they started (ie dinging my car) deserves to have the cops called. keep your nose clean and you have nothing to worry about.

I thought you only report it to the police is damage is over x amount of dollars. I remember one time when I got rear ended. The other guys car was smashed, and I had been rear ended the day before so my car was already a little bruised up. But when the CHP got to the scene, he asks "Do I need to be here for this? Can you guys settle this without me?" I said that I needed the police report for work.
So no.. I don't think the police would be necessary for this.
................ BUUUUUUUUUUUUTTT after reading the very end after finishing up the story above, don't need to call the cops.. but she might be able to get a new LV bag out of it
(if thats her thang)

You are only REQUIRED to file a report if it's over X amount of damage. Think it's like $500. But you have the option to file it for anything.
I called CHP the other night because some retard was talking on his phone and drove off the freeway in front of me. Kicked rocks all over the damn place. They told me they'd start a file with my name and the info on the car. If I found any other damage to go to a local CHP and add it to the report.
Got one chip on the windshield and so far one paint nick. I'm going to see if I can get it out before I head down.
My advice would be to file the report. Takes time and it's a PITA but it's there. It'll make it easier for your insurance to go after his.
Years ago someone backed in to my car door at a coffee shop. Dented the whole thing in. They drove off. Unfortunately for them I saw the whole thing and chased them down.
She did the same thing, begged out of calling it in. So I felt bad. She promised to pay and gave me her info. I let it go. Next thing I know she's not replying to any contact after I gave her a $1300 quote to repair it. Then she tells her dad I'm stalking and harassing her and she didn't do anything.
I ended up talking to her father and talking him in to meeting me at a public place to view my car. I had her paint on my door and my paint was on her bumper. After he came down he agreed to pay but only came up with $900.
Fortunately for me I got tboned and they fixed that whole side of my car.
long story short... cover your own ***.
