Tuning the Wagon continued...
I got some more time to work on my 05 wagon and again got some surprising results. Since the last tune I added some more key components from Crucial and spent a good amount of time on the re-tune.
Current setup on my 05 WRX Wagon:
Crucial Uppipe
Crucial Downpipe
Crucial catless mid pipe
Crucial prototype catback
Crucial P&P&C OEM headers with Injen cross pipe
Tuned with Cobb ProTuner
Some notes on the tune:
When I started out with my usual base map for this type of setup, I found that my car didn't want to run the timing advance I generally like to run. So I dropped timing a couple degrees in the necessary places and started bumping up the boost and leaning it out watching EGT's closely. I ended up with a much more aggressive tune than I would generally provide for a customer on California 91 octane. The car is running 17.5psi in the mid range tapering to just under 14psi by redline. A/F is at 11.4:1 in the mid range going to about 11:1 by redline. This is significantly leaner than I generally like to run on our gas and thus the EGT's climb to just over 1600F on a pull through 4th gear. With the current setup, this approach deffinately made the most power but I would be very hesitent to run a customer's car like this. My theory is that my stock spark plugs are limiting the timing advance I can run so I'm going to switch them out and try my more conventional approach soon.
In the meantime, here are the results of the leaner approach:
The results astounded me and this is now officially the most power and torque I've ever seen a stock turbo WRX make on 91 octane. As I've said, however, this is quite an aggressive approach and I would not be comfortable running such a tune on someone else's car. Hopefully with the addition of colder spark plugs and a richer approach I'll be able to lower EGT's without loosing much power.
As always all and any comments and questions are welcome.
Thanks

That would be interesting, and maybe a great advert for your business, which co-incidently is tuning Subaru's. 224/240 seems awfull high on a stock turbo.

I agree the numbers seem quite high and fully understand your skepticism. I haven't been in the Bay Area in quite some time and my schedule doesn't allow me to make many trips out there. I'd also like to put it up on Gruppe-S's dyno will do so as soon as my schedule permits. For the time being, you can easily compare these numbers with other cars I've tuned and road dyno'd since those are in fact from the same source.
Thanks
