Trying to find an article on www or no www

I read an article a couple years ago about it being the accepted norm and o.k. to write out a website address without www. in front of it.

I can't find the damned article and it's pissing me off. One of those days I really want to break something. I need to come home and drink some beers and stay far away from any hammers I have in my house.

so... if anyone has read an article about using websites without www or incomplete in design.. print and online can you post up links.

Basically I designed something for someone and their website is running across the back of the card and it's got one and a half "w"s and the m in com is chopped off. But it's obviously a website.

My deal is this.... it shows enough of the m that it's OBVIOUSLY .COM and it obviously www.... I mean what else are you gonna put. Seriously. And it shows enough of the w's that it's obviously a website.

It got approved this way and now weeks later as it just got finalized... literally it's now getting flipped. They want the w's. So I basically got reemed saying... needs to be fixed it's wrong.

My beef was... It's not wrong it's design. If the client wants it changed that's fine whatever. Takes 2 seconds. But IT IS NOT WRONG.

Grrrrr

but wtF do I know, my designs just keep winning awards. Won 2 more today from SIA.

So let me get this straight, you're getting flack for putting a domain name without the "www."? There shouldn't be any Ws. Look around. Who the hell puts "www"? Do away with the dubs...

honestly I'm surprised they didn't ask for it. Crazy bioengineers and isht.

I'm actually pretty stoked on the card so I don't care if they make me put the www and com all the way on the card... won't be quite as cool but it's a LOT cooler than a lot of clients are willing to go....

But yeah... glad I'm not alone.

Seriously... where else is a .com gonna be?

Who the hell cares? Just change the DNS records of the domain to reflect the page without www (Example: DNS Record 2: webpage.com) and it will propagate and no longer require the WWW. In fact most DNS now just chop the WWW off the packet request.

It wasn't about that... it was about being told I was wrong when I wasn't and not being listened to. But it's all better now. My ego has been stroked and I'm happy. Sheesh.

And you're right.

Did you know you can be penalized and extra charged for double info if you use www in some links on your pages and not in others. Interesting loophole.

My point was that you don't need www. people pretty much know that anything with a .xxx or .xx after it is the interwebs...

if I write microsoft.com in the address bar of any browser it comes up. Do they need more proof than that?

Award winning eh? I wanna see some of your designs.

Since I don't wanna post in this thread without helping. I tried looking for a bit. This was the best I could find. Yea, a Wiki. =/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/URL_normalization

* Removing “www” as the first domain label. Some websites operate in two Internet domains: one whose least significant label is “www” and another whose name is the result of omitting the least significant label from the name of the first. For example, http://example.com/ and http://www.example.com/ may access the same website. Although many websites redirect the user to the non-www address (or vice versa), some do not. A normalizer may perform extra processing to determine if there is a non-www equivalent and then normalize all URLs to the non-www prefix. Example:

http://www.example.com/http://example.com/

I did the billboard, brochure, program, mailers, and the banner. Their inhouse designer took my stuff and turned it into really ads and a website and what not. That won a gold ADDY award for us.

I worked on the Opta Energy Drink can design just before my wedding. I started it and another of our guys finished up and did a fine job on it. That's won I think 3 awards.

Here's one of the articles for it.
http://www.examiner.com/x-281-Energy...y-Berry-Fusion

We just won for the Yumberry bottle design.

As a firm we've won a ton recently. My boss won for photography. We've won for several pkgs. Couple awards for the Annie Glass catalog.

Etc.

Me directly. MY stuff has only won a couple but it's just starting to be submitted. Wasn't meaning to sound big headed. We've got a couple designers on i-club that are well above and beyond me... Huck to name just one. I am very much on the upslope of my learning curve and my abilities are definitely growing in a huge way here. My boss rips, my production manager is a wealth of knowledge and they depend on me to be able to design anything here so it's forced me to learn quick.

I am working on my first 2 websites as we speak.

crappy site but I did these candy bar labels and their coffee bags...coffee bags not pictured. If you like chocolate I'd order some of these bars...especially the dark chocolate ones.... soo good.
