You are correct about tires usually being the culprit in wrecks, although there have been a few driver error induced disasters (my friend Larry Hall balled up his BMW 850 this spring at about 130) and there are usually a couple of engine failures and sometimes fires as well.

Tire failures on these events can be, but only rarely are caused by punctures from debris, the real killer is heat, just a few pounds low in pressure at 110+ (not to mention the guys running 150-170+) can cook even a really good tire down to crap very fast, so be sure they are well pumped up before heading out in the morning.
I fully agree with you on this. I know of a race car builder that can help me sort out the best tire to run for an event like the Silver State Classic. Thanks for the advice!

Even if your guy really knows his stuff, you'll want to run it by the Silver State tech guy, because he has the last word.

I've seen more than one entrant scrambling to get Tire Rack to overnight a set of fresh Z-rated shoes to Ely to pass tech, and I've seen a few entrants forced to change over to being courseworkers when their tires didn't pass the inspectors scrutiny.

Yeah I will make sure to be in contact with the tech as far as tires and safety gear is concerned.

A little past 140 on the speedo....GPS indicated 141.9 and let off. I may have a couple more mph left in it. 04 WRX wagon.

Whats that old saying? something about pride coming before the fall?

This last weekend, two cars finished .0001 mph off target speed.

So if your trying for an overall accuracy record you'll have to finish with LESS than a .002 SECOND- (thats 2 milliseconds, the time it takes a sound wave to travel 2 feet) error over 90 miles.

good luck!

yeah that 205mph ticket is nuts. I am a speed freak..but probably not that much of a speed freak. Member when wesley snipes got popped for 179 or something like that.

my top speed in my subaru is about 130...thing starts floating all over the place at about 115 so it's pretty scary. now the Re's are gone I might be able to go faster...but I really won't push it until I lower her a bit.

Top speed in my civic was over 140. Guage doesn't turn that far. I figured it out to be around 145ish do the car I was pulling on. I could take my hands off the wheel at 100mph plus and the thing would just keep on going.

top bike speed is 135ish..on a test ride...never been on a bike since. passenger or driver.

top speed every...probably 160 in an old firebird. good old 6.0..haa.
