Took the plunge. Bought a new pistol.

Well,

After months of hunting around and firing as many different pistols as possible, I took the plunge. About a month ago I posted on here asking you gun guys out there what you would choose between a Glock 23, a Springfield XD40, and a 1911 varient and I found many of your pointers very helpful, so thank you. I chose to go ye olde 1911. A Sringfield 1911-A1 Mil-Spec .45 in stainless with a black grip, to be exact. Get to pick her up on Jan 3rd.

Quick question for you 1911 guys out there; what are some good websites to check out for 1911 accessories? I'm really looking for some carbon fiber grips (or some kind of neat wood) and magazines (preferably something with a larger capacity than the standard SA 7 rounders that come with the gun).

-Chris

also, as a side note, for those of you that were interested in the Kel-Tec SU-16CA we talked about in past threads, I just added the compact forend and sling to mine, so I'll post up some pics of the new set-up as soon as I can find my camera.

And for those that were interested in the FN FiveseveN, they have some ammo in stock at the Antioch Armory... for $40 a box!

with a single stack design, you cant fit much that 7 (or 8 like in my sig 220ST .45).

otherwise, you will end up with a mag that sticks below the mag well opening...

now if you like that look,

I don't mind a little sticking down, but the amount 10 rounders will stick down may be a little much. I'm really just looking for some good 8 rounders (like what Colts come with stock) that anyone may have experience with. Thanks for the link though. For the right price, they may be worth a try.

Thanks SilverBlitzkeig. Right after I posted this thread I found that same website. Lots of good stuff there. I think a pair of Carbon Creations Carbon Fiber grips have my name on them. How do you like your fully loaded model? I was about to purchase a fuly loaded SS, but the price made me kringe. Plus, I'm a tinkerer. I think I'm just going to build this thing over time with parts I find interesting. It'll probably cost more in the long run, but I'm retarded like that.

The loaded is great!Long story short i started out with a mil spec that i planned to build up, but after a few problems with it and alot of time at the Springfield factory they upgraded me to the loaded. I would get a set of the novak nite sights after a good set of grips( I use the houges myself) and then proly a few extra clips.

Congrats on the new gun... One thing I hate about 1911's is magazine capacity. 13 + 1 in my glock 21 = teh w1n

Yeah, the mag capacity isn't thrilling, but I just fell in love with the rest of the gun. I tried the Glock 23 (which is going to be my next pistol purchase) and just wasn't as excited about it. It seemed almost too utilitarian to me, no romance. Since I can only afford one pistol for the time being, the 1911 made more sence to me. I like its feel, I like its history, and I like its looks. When I have the expendable cash I'll pick up a G23, mount up an M-3 light and use it as my home defence gun. In the meantime, if I can't put down whatever is threatening me in my home with 7-8 .45acp's, I've got bigger problems.

Hell, the damn thing weighs so much that if I run out of ammo I can just throw it at them.

Para Ordnace... still not quite as many rounds as a glock, but their hi-cap 1911s arn't anything to scoff at. You dont see too many18+1 1911s(http://www.paraord.com/product/product.html?id=19). I'm tempted to buy one of their pistols in a few days once I'm of legal age, but I think I'd rather keep saving for a Benelli M4 shotgun. *sigh* Soo many choices, and my car wants my money too.
