I love my Smart Car. I've had it since 2008 and have never felt unsafe in it. I get the deathtrap comment all the time. My favorite is when people on motorcycles make safety comments... 
Last week I drove a Smart with a Turbo... 1800lbs and about 125hp. Very fun.
There is a site where people can post their accident stories. The fatalities have been low for the vehicle...

lol ya Jer you were the first person I thought of when I saw this post.
I remember about 4 years back I was at a meet and a guy that just bought an EVO put a cage in it, I asked him if he knew it was pretty dangerous to have a cage in a street car, he laughed and said. " Hell, Ive been riding an R600 as my daily driver for the last 4 years, this thing might as well be an Abrams tank!"
I didnt really have much to say about it after that
