Third gauge recommendations?

Hey, I got another tech question that I can't decide for myself, so you guys get to help.

So I have a three gauge clock pod (defi) with 60mm boost and oil pressure gauges already. I'm looking for a third gauge to put in and fill the void . I'm not sure what sort of gauge to get. I hear that an EGT is a good bet, but I don't have any bungs in my exhaust to plug it into. Is it difficult to add a bung without removing my exhaust parts? What other gauges are good to get? I have my intake manifold off right now so it's a good time to run lines.

and on a side not....does anyone know anything about doing fuel rail mods on an 07 fuel rail?

TIA

What kind of car this going in? if you don't have a factory outside temp gauge, that could be handy to add.

07 WRX. Already have an outside temp, and it is definitely handy.

engine/coolant temp maybe? already have oil pressure, so i'd say oil temp is not necessary.

but yeah, egt would be good but i think engine/coolant temp would be your best bet.

i'd probably call some regarded tuners (or your tuner) for their advice though as i never fully take any internet advice.

This.

I would have oil temp before oil pressure. By the time you see it has hit 0 the motor is already done

EGT, Water temp, Oil temp

for an egt gauge, you should be tapping the exhaust manifold. i have heard of people doing it without removing it, but i think most take it off to tap into it.

other alternatives are air/fuel or a voltage meter.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll check with a tuner. I'll probably get water temp. My moto had one, so might as well have one on the car (great reason, huh? lol) I only have the oil pressure because the boost and oil pressure came with the pod.

Soooo, anyone know anything about the fuel rail mod? (gonna ask a tuner about that to)

I'll bite

You don't care what the coolant temp is... You care about the oil temp.
It's the oil that has to get to proper operating viscosity. If you have oil temp, you are gonna have a pretty damn good idea when the combustion chambers come up to temp.

Hmmm, that's a good point. I would like to. I already have the oil pressure plugged into the oil galley. What other plug options do I have to put the temp sensor besides getting a sandwich adapter? Or should I replace the oil pressure?

The thing to think about drilling and tapping with it on the car is debris. Anything that falls inside that manifold is going through your exhaust. If you still have an uppipe cat maybe that's not such a big deal, but if you don't it's going into your turbo. Again, perhaps it doesn't matter, but why role the dice when it's about 10m to take the thing off and put it on a bench where it's easier to work on anyway?

(I think I'm reinforcing your point here.)

Exactly why i'm not doing it. I just did the whole exhaust and dropped a lot of money on new gaskets. I don't want to buy more or deal with the exhaust again. My car is pretty low to work under their comfortably.

I personally do care about coolant temp. The idiot gauge doesn't tell you how hot the car is exactly, and I doubt a lot of people really stare at it a lot to notice when it goes up. I have had a number of leaks and over heating problems in the past two years and am always worried about warping a head when I see my gauge at above normal. So when it comes time for a 3 gauge pod I'm going EGT, Water temp, and oil temp. (already have boost on steering column), and they will have a warning function for sure.

I would get a wide band, preferably one that I could use to log with like a LC-1
that way you can tell when your running in the safe zone or If you have a leak and your running lean.

Ya, that's what everyone tells me. I'm hoping that I never have to worry about that though. Only running an sti turbo and a conservative tune.

Soooo, any ideas on what are my options for oil temp sensor other than oil galley or sandwich? Should I ditch the oil pressure?
