I have had 2 Bel radar detectors, a Uniden (top model from a few years ago that had ratings as good as the V1 but was way cheaper) and recently spent about 2500 miles behind the wheel w/ a V1. I have always known they were better, but now I am convinced.

The Bel detectors were crap, I ended up giving them away. Bad construction, tacky buttons - one just fell apart attached to my windshield. Horrible alerts that never made sense (okay.. what's chirp chirp beep mean) The Uniden is great and honestly grabs just about everything the V1 does, but with a slight delay and LOTS (and I mean LOTS) of false alarms, tho the dot matrix display is nice. The V1 found every cop, and didn't do any falsies outside of city areas. A fine product, like with anything else - you get what you paid for. My Uniden is hardwired from the power socket for the fancy grandma mirror I didn't get. As soon as I can afford it, a V1 is taking it's place.

i had mine hardwired into the existing plug above the maplights that was for the auto dimming compass and then had it suction cuped on the eindshield just above the rear view mirror on the left half. great place for it. hard to tell its there from outside the car and stays out of the way.

On the Corvette Forums, owners of these cars (who obviously have more $ and are willing to pay more $ to avoid tickets than most other car enthusiasts) have stated that the 8500 is the better radar detector based on personal experience.

I would search for the link on the 8500's being judged best radar detector against all high-end radar detectors in an independent test, but I'm too lazy.

How does the V1 perform in a tinted car? My car is tinted at 35% with Lumina (sp?) @ film all around by Vincent @ Omega , and no tint on the front windshield.

Also, anyone tried there 30-day satisfication guarantee thing? I am thinking of getting it and trying it out, but don't know if it'll be really hard to refund if I don't like it enough.
