The LS1 probably passes smog easier too.

The only way they can handle more boost reliably is with better apex seals and a street port doesn't hurt either.

Rotaries are cool and all, but they are only a small reason why RX-7s and 8s are the beez neez

Those weights aren't using the format for curb weights though. Mazda rated the FD at 2830lbs.

I think he may have been saying rotaries cannot handle forced induction period, not "just not so well" but I could be wrong. A friend of mine had 2 silver RX-7's - one '93 and one '85 GSL-SE. The GSL-SE's engine finally tossed the rear rotor at 318k miles, but he was still able to "limp around" in it till his Atkins motor showed up. He drove it on one rotor for about 2000 miles. Do that with pistons.

The '93 on the other hand had two engines within 78k miles before he finally threw in le towel. I am very interested to see how the Renesis motors stand up.

While I agree with virtually everyone else about waiting to find a stock one or one with an LS mill already swapped in, if you are still thinking about it, and you can afford it, $3500 ain't all that much, and if things don't work out with the Ford mill, you can part out the car, or something, and put the money towards something else. Personally, I'd choose the LS6 first (that's what I hope to swap in to my 240) and the LS2 second.
