Things to do in LA
^^you must be a bitter giants fan..
Anyway OP. definitely check out tommy burgers, and Philipe's beef dips... even if it means an hour drive from where you are... you will not regret it. Philipe's is where they invented beef dip sammiches.

'Better beaches' is the only thing I'll argue. LA's beaches are pussified, I like the rugged 'if you drown there are no witnesses' feel of NorCal beaches. For surfing though. If you're going to girl watch, then yeah, LA wins again.

If you're staying out near UCLA, there are some cheap eats in Westwood. Look up Sak's Japanese restaurant. Cheap and pretty good. Grab some cookies or cookie ice cream sandwich from Diddy Reese. Check out a movie at the famous Fox Theater. There's a sub sandwich shop that used to be bomb right off of Gayley right near UCLA. It's called Roll In Sandwich, I believe, but the prices are twice as much as it used to be. Probably $3-$4 now, compared to $1.50 back in the late 90's. Great for when you're drunk since they open late. There's also a couple of Hookah spots right next to the Fox Theater. Ooooh, one more place that is bomb is CCC, California Chicken Cafe. Order either a half chicken, or my favorite, Chinese Chicken Salad. Definitely.
Drop me a PM if you need more suggestions, but I went to school out there so I know the area relatively well.

haha sorry but i find it funny when people call them rims
You must have me confused with someone from NorCal who would argue that with you.

not to mention more consistent year round waves.
I like the seclusion of the beaches here better. Anytime theres a swell down there its a zoo clear to SD.
i will honestly say the beaches up here are far more "naturally" beautiful. but you must have been on bad days or something... huntington beach in august was absolutely nice for a lazy summer day (about 4 ft peelers) newport can be hit or miss but usually hit. laguna is laguna and will always be good if there's any kind of swell hitting it.. and san diego is full of world class surf. but that's kind of out of the areas you can call "LA region"
all in all i have surfed up here and down there many times, and i would take socal any day. there's a reason huntington beach is truly surf city usa.. and it's not cause it's mush.
plus after you get your set in, you can lay on the beach and enjoy hot sand underneath you.. that's a great way to end the session. not to mention if you are in huntington beach, you have the little privately owned stands offering the best "post surf" foods. up here where the hell do you eat after a session? in most spots you have to drive off to find food.. san diego, huntington, newport, etc etc all have stuff along the water... i'm talking not just waves but overall experience of surfing.

west hollywood is the gayest place ever. no pun intended.
go to west hollywood if you like getting mugged.
but seriously man if you like baseball go to a dodgers game even if you hate the dodgers, it's a park everyone should see while it's still what it is. if you go sit in the left field pavilion, but do NOT wear a giants hat. just a warning.. that's east LA's finest, favorite spot.
