My friend has had a lot of stupid stuff break in her focus, and driving it is . . . meh at best, the suspension is fairly well sorted, but I still don't like it. Besides, I just like being contrary!

It is not the suspension from the M3, it's merely "M-Tuned".
It's a great handling car, and yes it has good balance.
The SMG works better in the M3 than the 330 though.
Oh yeah and they don't cost 50k either, the E46 M3 starts at $47k+

I have a printout of the car with VIN, including options and MSRP - it is $45K
I looked at Carsdirect.com and I can't quite match the options that the dealer had, but I notice it is $42K - with Xenon headlights and onboard navigation. These options are already installed on the only manual I can get.
The dealer is Concord BMW where I went to price one at - they were very helpful, but I bet I can at least get rid of the $2000 dealer markup.

As for the 330Ci...a fully loaded one with all options and an auto transmission is $50K, actually slightly over $50K
Now what deparment was it that you worked in?, I hope it isn't sales
