So Ford is selling Volvo, to BMW?
Wouldn't that be great. Volvos are great cars imo and I used to own one. Ford bought them and they have been downhill ever since (who would have guessed it).
BMW is very successful and will bring back the quality to their lineup.
No news on Landrover and Jag, the other two luxury brands of Ford.

F8.46, +0.01, +0.1% ) said BMW has been considering a deal for Volvo.
The story follows a report Friday in the Financial Times that BMW is interested in the Swedish car maker.
Officials from Ford and BMW (DE:519000: news, chart, profile) could not be reached for comment on the report.
Merrill Lynch has said Ford could raise over $9 billion by selling its remaining luxury car brands.
Ford said in April that U.S. vehicle sales fell 13% amid a slowing housing market, lofty gas prices and slumping consumer confidence.
Ford reported a sales drop of 228,623 vehicles from 262,722 a year ago. Analysts had been looking for a slide of up to 20% due mainly to two fewer selling days in the recent month, a decline in production, and reduced fleet sales. Ford sales analyst George Pipas acknowledged that April was a "challenging" month. "Most of the shortfall to our expectations as well as our expectations for the industry were on the retail side," he said in a call following the report. "However, on balance, we believe we are making progress toward improving the profitability of our business in North America.
In the luxury Premier Auto Group, Jaguar and Volvo endured double-digit declines while Land Rover saw its sales jump 12.7%, thanks to demand for the LR2 SUV. End of Story "

downhill? I think the recent volvo's have been awesome. I don't know about their maintanance but my buddy had one and had no complaints.
The new little hatch that they have and an AWD 300hp S60. What's not to love about that?
shoot I think the new Evo looks damn near exactly like the volvos and people are loving it.

It kind of makes sense. If BMW were looking for FWD an AWD vehicles, this could be a relatively painless transition. I agree that the latest Volvos have been very nice. It's just too bad about the V70R.

What's too bad about the V70R?
My dad bought a S60R last November. I told him that he didn't need it and to get a regular one but, money wise, it was a great deal. I've driven it a few times and it's a decent car. My parents never drive their cars though. The 04 S60 T5 they gave to my sister when they got this one had only 20k miles on it. I have to agree with the statement above though. My family has been buying and leasing Volvos since 1987 and the last few have all had some minor "quality related" issues. Nothing major mind you. The worst was an S80 they had back in 2000. That had some electronic issue as well as the dreaded balljoint issues that they had to bring back twice for a recall.
