Taking BART to SF from Fremont everyday: Advice?
Do any of you commute using BART?
I'm totally in the dark here as I don't know squat about BART, but there is a potential job offer and it would be in SF... How much does it cost per month to use BART? Are there monthly passes? Or do you just pay $10 a day (whatever)... Sorry for the n00b question, figured some of you would know some stuff...

Go to www.BART.gov to get a rate schedule. I think you can get discounted tickets at Safeway, although they arent discounted much. It will take you an hour each way at least. However, if your employer offers a flex spending account you can purchase BART tickets using pre-tax dollars. I used to take BART every day from Pleasanton to Berkeley or San Francisco so if you have any other quesitons let me know.

I work in the city a few times a month. I always buy a red bart card from Safeway. $24.00 card for 9 bucks, cheapest way to do it other than hopping over the gate lol.
I did that for about 2 years for school. Only good thing about hoping on at the begining of the line (fremont) is you get a seat. In the mornings the farther up the east bay you go, the more crouded the train gets.
I know they raised their rates since then so dont know about pricing. I just would get a $20 ticket and use it till it was gone. Its definatly cheaper and less of a headache then driving to SF and paying for parking though.

I take BART from Pleasant Hill to Oakland every day, costs me about $120 a month. Sure beats traffic, gas cost, added miles to the car and outrageous parking prices.
If there was NO traffic, I would probably drive in and take bart 50/50.

You gotta be careful with those since they are for kids or seniors. If they catch you its a hefty fine.
Hey, be careful with that red bart card, I got caught by BART police using it. I just played dumb and said my grandpa gave it to me. Cop took it and let me off with a warning. I used to always use those when going to skate pier 7 back in the day.
I take bart from hayward to oakland everyday. I probably spend about $100/month, but I also take bart to meetings in SF every other week. If the company offers it, sign up for the commuter check program, which lets you buy the tickets with pre-tax money. You get checks that you can take to certain bart stations or participating lucky's/longs/shops listed on their website to redeem them.
FYI: the fremont and union city stations' parking lots fill up quick. Some stations offer reserved parking that you pay monthly for. They're up close to the station and range in price depending on the station. They only sell permits up to the number of spots so you're guaranteed a spot. (https://www.permit-sales.com/rates.asp) I guess you're out of luck with fremont. Fremont also charges $1/day for parking.

Also, get there early enough to get a parking spot. Once it's after 9AM (or earlier), you're pretty much screwed for the main parking lots. The Fremont BART off Mowry's pretty bad since they pretty much closed down a good portion of the parking lot for construction or something, if I'm not mistaken. I just remembered it was like this back in October. I'm lucky the BART station by my house (Bayfair) is next to a mall. So in case that happens, I just park at the mall and walk over. Haha.
where are u getting off in SF? if it's nears downtown area, it'll be an hour roughly.
also, a thing to note is if you have an ipod/pda u can download their time schedule and so u can always have it with u to reference.

Don't get on the trains that smell like diapers/poo-poo.
It takes about an hour from Daly City to South Hayward BART (pretty close to Fremont.)
Best seats are the ones in the "back" of the train car that faces forward. Facing forward is a key thing if you usually get motion sickness. My dad cannot take BART while facing backwards or else he gets motion sickness.
