but I'd say that if we spent that much time on the far side of the double yellow line we might not still be here- real skills would have been keeping that pace without stepping over!
How old are you guys anyways?

At that speed I wouldn't make the call that this was a clear road, he was just lucky it proved to be, an F-250 coming at him at the same speed would leave a mark.

Yeah.. despite what some may think i wasnt driving looking through a video camera. you can see much more. Also, i've driven on that road for at least 6 years in various cars, i have over 50,000 miles in my subie. Probably a majority of that on roads just like that. I feel like im the only person to ever push the limit on a backroad in his 4wd car.... Why do you guys own Subaru's again?? $hit if anyone who enjoys driving was on that road also they would probably have a hard time not stepping on the gas and keeping it legal also.

Thanks to everyone else who enjoyed the video

You guys act like you never drove like that before or never commited any traffic violation when no po-pos are around. Most of you guys are hypocrite. Even though most of us think that he was driving like an idiot, we were also speaking for ourselves when we "use" to drive like an idiot. . . An dont tell me like you never drove recklessly before because you know that's bull. . . especially when people here are saying "most of us here have been doing this longer than you", you just simply state that been there done that. I not trying to take sides here but we all know how it feels like, or when you have the urges to drive like you own the road. . .maybe its just that moment for smokey. . . in this case, he feels to drive like an idiot, just like back in the days, for some people here are saying.

I still have the urges sometimes to drive like I owned the road. . . what can I say the TRACK is not always there wherever I go.

Smokey, I still think that what you did was stupid. You shoulda kept it to yourselves and avoided the criticism.

I agree with the "hypocrisy" comment. What I noticed with this thread is one started the flame, then the rest follows. It happens to every forums. I guess people that criticized Smokey drives like a grandma.

Be real ya'll... you've done your share... one way or another!

By the way Smokey... where is this at? I'd like to check it out myself when I get the chance. Keep it cool and watching the video is quite nerve racking. That's probably why people commented harshly??? =\

I say, back road, few cars, drive at your own risk. I have broken the law a time or two on back roads and sprinted runs. I also know many on this forum that have as well. To evaluate ones driving abilltiy because he went over the double yellow is foolish. If the corner was visible prior to entering, drive at your own risk. What would you say if he stayed to the right of the yellow line and plowed through it, or lifted and spun? "uh, you should have chosen a better line." Hypocrites are every where. Have fun, be safe, keep the rubber side down and keep looking down the road. Try to remember that from manys perspective, you are a part of something here. The action you take, reflect on them and thier hobby. You can build any sort of reputation you want, try to make it positive.
Late,
Jeff

Sorry but, using both lanes, public road, bikes on the road: while you feel you are in control the other side may not be and this is exactly the type of driving on public roads that skyrockets our insurance premiums through the roof. I am sure you had no bad intentions, and I am sure you think I am just preaching; but it only takes a fraction of a second when driving like this on public roads to end up in total disaster.

Thumbs down Lame

Stay on your side of the road at all times. No exceptions. I've driven and ridden these backroads countless times since I moved out here and I can't tell you how many people cross over the double yellow into MY lane. STAY THE F OUT OF IT. You think that lane is clear but you, like most cagers, have no clue how fast a sportbike can come accelerating out of 'nowhere'. Speeding and aggressive cornering are one thing, but crossing into the opposite lane should never happen. When it does occur it means one of 2 things - you ran out of talent or you're clueless.

Now guys, some roads have some really awsome turns where you seriously cannot resists staying in your own small lane that barely fits your car. That is however a nice banked turn with a straight away on both ends so i could see way ahead. Anything less then that visibility and i agree it is dangerous and not worth it.

If the coast is clear and you have full visability then using the full width of the road is fine. I drive plenty of twisty roads where it's perfectly safe to use the opposite lane in bends with high visability.

Running the stops was the clueless bit.
