Not sure if even I will want to be driving at 86.

CHP officials said the Subaru continued forward, without braking, and struck the rear of the officer' s vehicle, causing major rear-end damage to the patrol vehicle and minor injuries to the CHP officer.

I have this issue with my grandpa. He is 88 drives a 2014 forester and already ding it up. As much as I wish he would give up driving, there is no one that can be with him at all times to take him places. Luckly he doesn't go far from home, but asking someone do give up driving is like asking to give up there independence. And older people are really stubborn. I'm just glad that no one got seriously hurt. Props to the CHP officer.

Ya it's just funny the attitude people have towards young people when old folks cause as many or more problems. Being hypocritical is the human way though. All fun and games till a 94 year old accidentally uses gas instead of raking in trader joes lot and guns it pinning your buddy in between the car and building. Anyway my opnion is old people who are irresponsible can go **** themselves.

You can anonymously report family member
Someone to DMV and they'll be called into c

You DO have to get recertified more often after a certain age (not every year though), but as we all know, the testing isn't so difficult to pass or there would be a lot less dummies on the road. My uncle used to be the one who gave the recertification tests for the DMV like 10 years ago and he said people would try to bribe him ALL the time...before they even took the test.

I think we should have 3 levels of drivers licenses.

1. Students. Those under 18.
2. Normal drivers. Those that have taken the required test at a min. level.
3. Expert drivers. Those that have taken more testing, classes, etc.

We should have lanes only for expert drivers and insurance price breaks for said drivers.

Our test should be harder and given in English only. Everyone should be required to retest every 5 years to maintain the expert classification. Everyone should be required to take a certain amount of drivers training courses. X amount of hours... say 14 hours for the normal cert. Say 40 hours for the expert cert. I don't know. Expert drivers can loose that cert. if they get so many violation points or at fault accidents.

Our tests are WAY too easy and there just isn't enough driver education. Most folks are not aware that you're suppose to move over for faster drivers, that flashing your lights at them is actually a courtesy not equal to flipping them off. People don't understand yield principles. Can't park for ****. The fast lane is truly for passing only. You know those double white lines on the commuter lanes... yeah that's a wall you stupid ****. Crossing over it is equivalent to hitting a wall and a $400 ticket.

Brights in fog is retarded. Driving with your headlights off in the rain or at dawn or dusk is retarded.

Checking the function of your head lights and brake lights every so often is a good idea.

We need to reduce how strict our smog laws are. Increase how hard the test is. Start requiring annual safety inspections or at least every 2 years. Too many dumb ****s driving around with un safe cars. That's way more hazerdous that putting an exhaust on your car. Hell most folks modifying their cars have the safest cars on the road... because we care.

I agree with you 100% the only problem is, you need money to teach all of that.

I already responded to this in our previous stupid driver rant thread. R&T had an article 2 months ago that said that Germany has the strictest testing in the world and their teen fatality rate is higher than the US. So harder TESTING is NOT the answer. The article basically said time behind the wheel is the one and only thing that helps and pretty much came right out and said drivers are not considered merely competent until they have at least 10 years of seat time. Not to mention, you cannot teach COMMON SENSE.

We already have different license classes, but not for the AVERAGE driver. We pretty much have Commercial / Class A (expert) and everyone else (Stupid).
