Subaru Tribeca or FX45?

Used the search button, I didnt like the results..Threads were old.

Wife and I are looking for a SUV, lately we have been taking lawn chairs, buying groceries in her G35 for our weekend activities, space is limited. She said why dont we take the STI, aint happening.

We decided to trade in the G35 (will be for sale for a Tribeca or Fx45.

If someone has Tribeca can you give me your experience on them? Driving style, Space, Mods (lol..)...We have a appt to drive one this saturday at Stevens Creek.

We like the FX also, but the space in the trunk is limited. We are going for a SUV with a car like feel.

Pics would be great of Tribeca owners.

The current Tribeca is basically an Outback. My daughter just bought a 2011 Outback and already has problems with it. I'd say not a solid choice.

I had issues with my tribeca (2009 3.6l) so sold it and bought my shelby. It had electrical issues that were never figured out and had burning plastic smell. Oh and heater wouldn't work in winter on and off would blow ac. With out those issues I loved it but couldn't risk having electrical problems.

Im not really a big fan of the tribeca. maintenance will cost you a bunch if you dont know how to change your own spark plugs or vave cover gaskets. Evenif you do its a PITA! on the plus side is that you wont have to worry about timing belt since its timing chain!

IIRC most versions have the 2.5, but I thought I did see a 3.0R or something? Hers is a 2.5 and it has stalling problems that the dealer can't figure out. I did some research and talked to a Subaru service person and they said there is a TSB for stalling in all of the 2010+ models, though not all cars have the issue apparently, which means it is likely electrical.

Ah, yes, the 2011 did have the 3.6R as an option, but all the others use a 2.5. My daughter has a 2.5i Premium.

My brother had a 2010 legacy 2.5i for 30k with zero problems, and just upgraded to a 2012 3.6r

Sucks to hear her car has issues

Back on topic, my uncle had an fx45 and loved it, had some oil issues though...and I don't really like the way the tribeca interior is setup

Drive both and see which you like. Personally I would make the choice between the FX45 and an older Forester (FXT).

I had this debate back in 2005 when getting a new car for my mom. At the time I was sure that the Tribeca would be the answer, than I drove one... what a POS
Ended up going with the FX35 and she adores it. Honestly, the FX45 didn't feel any quicker just more expensive. Now mind you that was a generation ago for both vehicles.

Can I suggest if you are considering these two, look at
2012 CTS Sport Wagon | Cadillac
Really comparable in price and probably a better driving car. They don't get really expensive until you get into CTS-V trim - and who needs a 600HP grocery getter
