The only RWD Subarus I remember were the 360 and it's different variants...
If Subaru wants to make a damn sports car, it better have AWD. Otherwise, they're both the same f***ing thing. Only difference is styling, and I see that as pointless rebadging.
I am NOT happy.

Here's me gaining experience tossing a 3800+lb car around Sears Point last weekend:

Wicked fun, but in no way sporty and a 170hp, 2700lb RWD "sports car" would be a whole different ballgame. I felt like I was considerably "faster" on track with my old 2200lb car which had around 70hp maybe.
edit: saw the note about the FB25, f that ish. The world is full of underpowered econoboxes that look cooler than they are (Scion Tc anyone?). Basically the idea of a 2 door, 2WD naturally aspirated Subaru is one of the worst ideas I've heard in a minute from a branding perspective. Guaranteed to flop with that setup.
I agree, this thing has been on the drawing board so long now its going to have to bring something else to the table if its going to be relevent. Theres good cheap RWD fun already here now.
You can get into the RWD genisis for $22K (with a turbo) or even the new base model camaro AND mustang that makes over 300hp, both also $22K. If they say its going to only have about 200hp from a non-turbo 4 banger, it better be alot cheaper and lighter to make any business sense

Anyway - I appreciate your comparisons but I really do not believe that the on-track experience between a 2.0T Genesis and a V6 Camaro would be remotely comparable. I do believe that a sub-200hp RWD car with sporting intentions and a sub-3k weight tab would be a total blast, and exactly what we need right now.
And... Churchkey tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes.

It's sad that this "must have loads of powaaaaaaah" mentality is carrying through. It would be way more fun out on the roads if people WOULD JUST LEARN TO DRIVE THEIR CARS. We don't need more powerful cars - we need better drivers. What is wrong with a Scion Tc's power to weight ratio? Well in short, nothing that a driver 20 years ago couldn't handle. Today's drivers though? Nope. Need power to make up for not knowing how to go around a bend.
I just checked, they still make Miatas.

Oh dont get me wrong, Im not trying to make the case that light cars with moddest power are less fun than bigger cars with more power, just saying its going to be a hard sell in todays market, unfortunately most people dont feel the way you do
And just got home, sorry i missed you at churchkey, if Dani's working there tonite say hi! Hope shes wearing my favorite shirt

My first car was a VW jetta with a 2.0 inline 4 putting out what, 110? You'll forgive me for saying a 2.0 turbo is significantly more fun to drive, even without differences in speed. At the same time, how are you going to change the skill levels of every driver against the road? You're talking about changing the path of a river that hasn't ever moved. Also, are you going to talk to a group of WRX owners about the need for less power?
I have no intention or dream of changing the skill level of all drivers on the road. I was merely commenting on it. IMHO, people were better drivers when a "sports car" pulled off a 10 second 0-60. Please note that this does not imply that power or fast cars are bad.

Ooof you got me on the semantics again. Find me a Miata with a factory built, non folding, metal roof that is part of the vehicle's structure and includes a hatch in the rear to put stuff - then you've got a deal.
Who's Jason? Haha I get called that a lot. It was a ton of fun but I should make it clear that I am a really crappy driver! I had a load of fun and learned SOO much but yeah, I suck at driving.
