Interesting.

Be curious to see how non AWD subaru's do in todays market. Seems everyone is jumping on the AWD market so Subaru has got to do something (even though they have the best AWD technology out there IMO).

I think if I was going to buy a RWD car in that price range I'd be too tempted to step it up to a 335.

With todays technology and Subaru's reputation for safety, I don't see it getting under 3000lbs. Figure the s2k is what... 28 or 2900 lbs.

If it gets between 3000-3100 they're doing good.

If its AWD (or not, maybe) and it had something along the lines of the STI's powertrain with an EJ25 or equivalent turbocharged engine you can bet it would cannibalize the STI's sales and add more than a few of its own. I know I would switch dreams from STI to FT, that much is for sure.

edit: saw the note about the FB25, f that ish. The world is full of underpowered econoboxes that look cooler than they are (Scion Tc anyone?). Basically the idea of a 2 door, 2WD naturally aspirated Subaru is one of the worst ideas I've heard in a minute from a branding perspective. Guaranteed to flop with that setup.

Here's what I see

People who are bored of their Impreza will trade in for the FT86 whether its a Scion or Subaru because they can afford it.

Those traded in Subarus will be *****'d up at the used car lot and most likely will attract the ricers with their Scion TC's, XBs, XA X whatever and will be like "omg so many used WRX/STI at the used car lot and they are being sold cheap like 12-15k, imma gonna do a straight up trade and have AWD Turbo"

Which car helped bring the WRX to the United States again?

A 2.5RS

Bah RWD?

Now both versions are going to be too identical. WTF Subaru and Toyota!

Toyota version is definitely going to be RWD... But I wanted the Subaru version to be AWD, but NO! Now they're the same ****ing thing! Lame...

Cool. Was that 2 wheel drive? Did that substantially deviate from the brand image Subaru has created and cultivated in the united states? Do apples taste like oranges?

I agree, this thing has been on the drawing board so long now its going to have to bring something else to the table if its going to be relevent. Theres good cheap RWD fun already here now.

You can get into the RWD genisis for $22K (with a turbo) or even the new base model camaro AND mustang that makes over 300hp, both also $22K. If they say its going to only have about 200hp from a non-turbo 4 banger, it better be alot cheaper and lighter to make any business sense
