Subaru of Fairfield has gone the way of the dodo.
On my way to work yesterday, I turned my head to check for traffic and noticed that the Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, as well as the sister Mazda/Subaru dealerships were vacated. This morning I noticed that the new F/L/M dealership had opened up.
So on my lunch break I drove over to the new dealer to see if Subaru had moved along with them, or to see if the Subaru franchise was going to get a full-fledged standalone building of it's own.
So I pull onto the lot, park my car in a customer-designated slot, and walk up to a spiky-blonde 20-something salesman. He asked if he could help me, and I replied that I saw Fords and Mazdas on the lot, but was wondering where the Subarus went.
He told me that the Subaru franchise was dropped, the remaining new car inventory was sold to Fremont, and referred me to Jenson Motor Center in Napa for the nearest dealership. Ain't that a ****!

I was kinda hopin' that they would split-off the Subaru franchise from F/L/M and Mazda, since all those other companies are "in bed together" and Subaru was the odd man out. I wanted it to become a stand-alone Subaru dealer so that I could get my service and warranty work done, since it theoretically would have been just a couple of blocks away from the Acura dealer that I work at.
The only time I ever went to the combined Ford/Lincoln/Mercury/Mazda/Subaru service department was to get my warped brake rotors taken care of under warranty. I was greeted by some schmuck named Don who "helped" me out and treated me like crap. At one point in our initial conversation, he suggested that I take my car back to the dealer that I had bought it from.
I had just fininshed up a 475mi drive from SoCal, and I was in NO mood to hear that BS. I damn near enrolled him in the "Doc Marten Dental Plan" right there in the service drive.
After that, I went over to the Enterprise agency up the street, and told them that the dealer was paying for a rental. When I got home, I called SOA's customer service hotline and unloaded my beef with some poor lady on the other end of the line. I told her, "I don't know what kind of customer service training that Ford gives it's service writers, but as a SUBARU owner I sure as HELL will not put up with it!"
In the end, I got my rotors resurfaced for free, and the dealer ate the cost of the rental since Subaru wasn't going to foot the bill for three days. And to think, my very first contact with that dealer was when I was job-hunting and the parts & service director wanted to hire me on as a service advisor!
