Looking for any info you guys have to throw at me.

FAFSA will not cover the schooling I am looking at.

This will also help anyone else looking for the same info! Go ahead and ask!

Talk to the advisers at the school you wish to attend. They will more effectively point you in the right path towards grants, scholarships, and loans. It is different for each individual.

Pretty much what he just said. When I went back it was partially under the Adult Education Returning to Work Grant, I had FAFSA but the biggest parts of it were my grants and scholarship money that made life livable, even with a brand new daughter having come into this world. You gotta do the homework on them, it can suck and be irritatingly boring, but in the end the time spent writing the forms and essays they ask for pays off in spades. Not to sound like I am gloating but I basically had a full ride which ended up in invites from both Stanford and UCSC which although I did not pursue, do look amazing on my resume. (CSU route instead to get it all done quicker.)

Here I am less than 3 years out (yeah, waited until adulthood to finish school) and I am back in business.

(Short version, bro, any help I can lend let me know, but you gotta actually listen and take the advise I give.)

I'm gonna go to medic school. I just need a list of places that offer.

I'm not going to a community college or anything like that, not all services are offered guys.

@thejordan, seriously trolling? come on.

What schools are you looking at Hide?

If money is an issue, a community college program will be longer but much more monetarily accommodating as far as loans go (unless full-time credits are req'd....)

Private programs do have scholarships/loans available but they are few and far between (if any)

Another option is to get a personal loan from your bank. It may require a co-signer or collateral, but it can be done.

Lastly, Sacramento used offer to put you through medic school if you signed a contract to work for them for 2 years. A program like that would be great if still offered.

I know where you want to be, but sometimes the road is a little longer and not as straight. Don't get fixated on wanting to work in just one place either, you might miss a big opportunity.

Foothill I'm looking at about 3 years to get high enough on the list.

CCSF does not contact me back and I asked a couple friends on mine who went through it, it's not immediate better chance at being faster than the foothill program

NCTI seems like the best option since I do not want to sit on my *** and just let time pass by without me getting any further than I am now. I'm not looking to get into a 4 year at this time, but I will be checking what credits can transfer from Cabrillo so I can see how far away I am from an AS

ETS would've been my top choice but.... its 25k+ now. WTF MATE?

Yah, it's definitely a popular field the past decade or so, but it would be good to get your name on as many waiting lists as possible. You never know how many people will give up on waiting.

Have you taken the FireHire test? There a plenty of opportunities available thru that and you never know who will be starved enough for medics that they'll pay for it. Hell, you may get hired as an EMT. Check if San Jose Fire is testing as well, a close friend was just hired as a non-medic.

ETS is private and they have some good hookups on internships, so they can charge up the ashsole if they want. To give youa frame of reference, I remember when ETS was 3k....and I became an EMT for $300

Any options to school/work through CDF these days still?

Here's the seasonal page but they also seed locally like in the Niles Canyon and other areas that if you string stuff together presents (hopefully) the chance to sing on at the same time for school.

*Realize I'm speaking from back in the mid-late 90's so things have likely changed.

Due to personal reasons and preferences I refuse to work with CalFire.

Plus I don't want to be displaced 9 months out of the year without a job. I would rather put it towards definite education first. Does that make sense?

Are you ****ing kidding me? I gave you the advice you needed. I'm graduating with a BS in Neurbiology and Physiology. I live on my own, pay for my own ****, and worked hard to get all the grants and scholarships I could to minimize my debt. Listen to someone who's there.

I don't understand your issue with community college either.

Also, if you aren't EMT certified, you'll have to do that first, get your hours, then go through paramedic. Most medic programs don't include the EMT part. So that's one semester for EMT, then 2 years for a paramedic program. Also, when you're done, you'll only have an AA which is useless outside of being a paramedic/fire. If you're looking at expensive schools, why not get a BS which will be far far more applicable in the future?

Assist.org will tell you what classes transfer where. It's a huge headache figuring that stuff out.

Jordan is not trolling, he is correct with is first statement. It is best to contact/sit down with a financial advisor at the school you wish to attend.

I worked at the Financial Aid office at a JC for just over two years. FAFSA is always number one to do. You have to do it for grant money AND loans.

To be considered independent you have to be at least 24 years old, married, have a child that you support more than 50%, or be an orphan/ward of the court.

If you are not independent by any of those, you are depended and will be required to to use your financial information along with your parents'/guardians' financials.

If you do not qualify for FAFSA, your next best bet would be scholarships as far as "FREE MONEY" Even if you do not qualify for grants through FAFSA, you still need to have it filled out to be able to take out loans.

There are Sub and Non-sub loans. One you accrue interest on while in school, and the other does not start gaining interest until 6 months after graduation/not enrolled in half time status.

Junior Colleges in CA also offer the Board Of Governors Fee Waiver (BOG) which can cover tuition fees and possible a fraction of parking permits (depending on the school). This is for JC ONLY and is separate from FAFSA (you do not get a check, it just waives your fees).

^Thanks, I couldn't remember the other part of what I ended up with, BOG helped out HUGE especially when it came time for specific G.E.'s I had to satisfy and the stupid Dean/Instructor "required their school's specific and most current books/etc for course-x-y-z".

**Don't even detour here, ignore I even mentioned the crookstore at all. Chegg.com is your best friend.
