Stuck like Chuck, front axles for clutch install

Do I need to remove the front axles? Can I just unbolt the tranny and bring it back will the axles have enough play to give me enough room to change it?

I have everything off, just need to undo the actual 6-8 tranny 14mm? bolts.

Worked for 6 hours with a budy and the suby manual and we just got to the point where the tranny is away from the motor! It will go faster back together as we were learning as we went and had to look a ton of stuff up and run to the store to buy tools every hour or so

All in all it's going smoothly. Slow and a lot of work but so far so good. We will see what Sunday brings. Then I need to find out how to take off the 4k rev limiter to break in the clutch LoL

ok I thought the tranny was away from the motor as we undid all the bolts 6 and nuts 2 and pulled out the release fork. The tranny will not budge away from the motor. I cannot see what we have missed even with triple checking the manual. Anyone know how to break the seal?

We let down the jack holding the tranny and the cross members are gone. It lowers to a certain point and will just hang there attached to the motor. stumped again and I just broke the nipple on the return line to the radiator from the turbo res. Time to take it off and tap it with a brass fitting.

HELP!

I got pictures of all of this for the fun. I will post when the job is complete. Clutch is out and we are prepping and cleaning the new one before we install it. I had to park my Suburban behind my STi and hook a come-along to the tranny and then to my frame on my Suburban and slowly put tension on it and use a pry bar with a towel taped around it. It was a game of mm after that until it was off the bottom studs.

Stock clutch is toast. totally wasted.

This thing was done! Was getting into the metal of the resessed Allen screws holding the discs in place.
