I still say buy a used gen 1 Impreza L, slap in an STI drivetrain, run 12's, call it a day and spend half as much as either car.

So pick which car you want and drive off. Does it make a difference?

[QUOTE=doughboy]whereas they wouldnt rank the STi in civic category?

the WRX is already being called the "new civic"...what makes the STi different from the Evo in that respect?
QUOTE]

Sorry, the WRX is being called the new Integra GSR, and the type R is the STI.. that's what I've heard... as if it matters anyway. I'm just saying the EVO looks overdone like an inner-city Civic. IMO, the STI wing does look tacky, and makes the STI look lower-class than an S4, for one example.

My other point is this:

Impreza:
Base strippo= $18k
WRX= $23k (5k over base model)
STI= $28 (10k over base model)

Neon:
Base strippo= $11k (you can't even get a civic that cheap)
SRT Turbo=$21k (10k over base model)

Lancer:
Base strippo= $12k (you can't even get a civic that cheap)
EVO= $28k ($16k over base...congrats to their marketing people!)

The EVO is based on an ugly, $12k platform! How could you let your neighbors see that in your driveway? 99% of your neighbors would think you've become a ricer.

Edit- oh, and don't give me any of that, "who cares what people think,"BS. We wouldn't have i-club if we didn't care.

The Sti and Evo are almost identical in the 1/4 mile. The Evo definitely takes the Sti in the turns. The Evo is now about $5000 cheaper than the Sti. But I would still take the Sti because the Evo's are already starting to have many problems. The road and track article is good! They picked the Evo.

I don't get the point of your comparison. Do we care? NO. Are you hella-dumb? YES. S T F U!!! My Impreza will smoke you, and so will my EVO.

By adding a USDM EGR setup, TGV's from a WRX and using all the required cats you should be able to swing that through smog, I know at least one vendor on the boards who had a JDM WRX AVCS equipped (Non STI) certified and made legal in CA (hint look at next Novembers SCC mag)

As for the comments referring to base prices and such I did sit and try to work out the rational behind that post and really cannot think where that came from, baseless crap comes to mind... figures are meaningless as a comparision of performance i.e a base Ford Escort in the UK was 8K (Pounds) and the Cosworth was 31k, they both have the same Ford Escort badge but that's about it.

The EVO is not a body kitted Lancer, the whole chassis is modified from the ground up it may bare the lancer family name but that is it.
