Police seek second driver in street race
Police are looking for the driver of a second car involved in a street race Friday afternoon that sent two people to the hospital.
The driver of one of the cars, 30-year-old Michael Godwin of Petaluma, lost control of his 2003 Subaru at the intersection of South Ely Boulevard and East Washington Street, hitting a 14-year-old girl.
Both Godwin and the girl were injured and taken to Petaluma Valley Hospital, where they were treated and released.
According to police, Godwin and another driver were racing northbound on Ely shortly before 3 p.m. They ran a stoplight at East Washington and both swerved to avoid hitting a car coming through the intersection.
Godwin lost control of his car, which went onto the sidewalk, striking the girl, then hitting a concrete wall.
The driver of the second car did not stop and left the scene. It is believed to be a red Nissan 350Z coupe.
No charges have been filed or arrests made, but police are asking anyone who might know the identity of the second driver to contact them at 778-4372

30-year-old Michael Godwin of Petaluma is going to go to jail for awhile. Street racing at 3 in the afternoon on a busy street and hit a 14 year old girl? The DA will call it attempted murder, compare him to a drug dealer that sells to babys, and throw the book at him.
