Stranger's unlocked car...what would you do?
*cliff* what would you do with a stranger's unlocked car?
Today on university ave in palo alto, my friends and I were sitting about 20 yards away from my friend's car, which was parked on the street and not in a lot. We were eating red mango and wanted to chill before we go to the mall. So there was an open parking spot in front of my friend's car, and this accord attempted to parallel park his car in front. mind you there was no car in front of the open parking spot, just more curb so he had plenty of room to park...just pull in front and reverse....simple
not the case, apparently he wanted to do a 12 point reverse into the spot, constantly going back and forth. even his gf/sister passenger was covering her face in disbelief. finally he parks it and i guess out of all the maneuvering he did, he just closes the door and walks away with his lady passenger across the street. My friends and I didnt notice any lights or chirp sound indicating keyless entry. so after we finish our snack, we walked over to make sure he didnt hit my friend's car. I was curious if he locked the doors so I opened the door to check, and sure enough it opened. The owner was long gone by now, so there was no way of notifying him. I wanted to do something to remind him to lock his car next time but i think leaving all 4 doors and trunk open would be too much of a statement. i was really thinking about putting the car in neutral (it was a stick) and pushing it into my friend's spot once we left. just curious what other people would do in my situation.

That's great.Well if you wanted to do something and the spot in front was open I guess you could have put it in neutral and rolled it forward 1 spot. Lock all the doors from the inside and leave. The guy & girl might not have noticed or maybe they would have and been like

i didnt really think of it being a bait car considering it was on university ave next to stanford. but who knows, it not like nicer areas have no crime at all
as for karma, its not like i wanted to damage or steal his car. i kinda wanted to make sure he remembered to lock his car next time.
once i think about it, i could have locked his car for him, but what kind of lesson would that teach him? that there are decent people out there? like he would notice.
side note, ive done my fair share of charity work, donations, goodwill, favors, and overall unselfish kindness...but its seems like its only as good as your last

or he has a problem with his door locks and if the car is locked, it cannot be opened up.
