Stoptech Replacement Rotor qeustion.

Okay, so i have a set of stoptech BBK, when i bought the BBK the owner said the pad had fissures on them but the rotor is good, he said there were only 3,000 miles on them. He had tracked it pretty hard at t-hill one day. He split on some new pads and we made the trasaction. I tested out the breaks, nothing major a little vibration when i break really hard but nothing was noticable when driving under normal conditions. NOw about half a year later, there is a noticable vibration in the steering wheel and also the break pedal. so my rotors are warpped. Now my question is, how long do two piece rotors usually last? Should i replace these rotors with non-stoptech rotors? ... What's my best bet for good pad wear and heat resistance? .. can i just replace the outter rim of the rotor since it's a two piece set? And is anyone selling anything compatible. Any help would be much appreciated.

the vibration you are feeling could be a result of a couple of things:

-slight bend on the wheels
-uneven pad wear
-build up of pad material on the rotors
-warped rotors

Stoptech rotors on the BBKs usually take a lot of abuse before showing signs of significant wear. As for timeline on when to change them, it not really dependent on time but rather rotor thickness. If I remember correctly, the minimum thickness of the Stoptech rotors for the 328x28mm kits is 21mm. So, just take a measurement of the rotor and if it's less than 21mm, it's time to replace them.

Good news is that since the rotors are two-pieces, you can just replace the rings and Stoptech offers the replacement rings for $215 each (slotted; non-zinc coated). You can check out their website for more choices: www.stoptech.com

Hope this helps. Good luck with the problem.

While you are at Stoptech's site, check out their comments on warped rotors. This seems the least likely problem. More likely, as Soren suggests, is uneven pad material on rotors. It might even be worth checking your wheel balance as this can feel worse under braking.

hmm. Alright, when i get time i'll take everything apart, clean the pads and measure the rotor. Thanks for the comments.
