Awsome times Sean! We'll get the shifting issue resolved and shoot for a 12 flat next time out . Congratulations on holding the stock turbo sti record!

Thanks

However, for having just a few bolt-on goodies, those are some respectable numbers.
Notice that the title says "stock turbo sti" not "stock sti." If you call setting the new record for a stock turbo sti "respectable" then I suppose this run is respectable... haha

Thanks

I see what you mean, but the title of the thread doesn't use quotes; without them it appears misleading.

Not really, doesn't it say "stock turbo"?

Yep, this car is running a Hallman MBC and loving it. The main reason we went with an MBC is that the 06 ECU has some interesting programming to try to protect the transmission. When you attempt to shift very quickly in an 06 sti, the ECU will cut boost through the entire next gear or untill you let off the gas again. In an attempt to get around this issue, we installed an MBC to make sure boost control was not being hampered by the ECU. Sadly we found that in this case, the ECU still takes a pro-active approach and cuts fuel instead. This means Sean still had to shift slower than he'd like/can. We're working on resolving this issue with Cobb and hopefully we'll have a solution by the next time the car hits the strip. Some quicker shifting should at the very least bump up the trap speed by 1-2mph and hopefully bring us closer to a 12 flat with one of Sean's 1.6 60' launches .

Even though we went with an MBC to try to get around a software issue in this case, I still stand by the fact that a solenoid type boost control system can never match the performance and consistancy of a well designed MBC. There are a couple obvious draw backs to MBC's in general, but in terms of performance, they cannot be beat.

Thanks

Take a look at the title and you'll see what I mean:

stock turbo STI (somewhat ambiguous)

"stock turbo" STI (the turbo is stock, but the car is not)

"stock turbo STI" (the car is completely stock)

I am not saying the original poster is a n00b, but some n00bs tend to use the redundant terms "turbo WRX", "turbo STI", "WRX turbo", or "STI turbo" when describing their cars.

For the benefit of some of our recently-joined club members (like myself ), adding the quotes and putting them in the proper place adds clarification and makes all the difference in the world.

Is this the same with an EBC like the AVC-R, people say there is no use for a AVC-R when you have em like ecutek or Cobb, I have always said "not true"!. I can't take credit for know this as someone I trust when it comes to modding subies told me this. That's why the AVC-R is sitting on my shelf ready to go in my car for Mike to tune with the new tarby.
