I filled up at safeway last week for $4.11 a gallon. Got the best mileage I've EVER seen in my wrx and I'm overdue for an oil change.
25.6 mpg. Got over 350 miles on the tank.

I drive 100 miles a day to work and back. The sti just sits in the garage......try and drive it around on the weekend, but gas has been killing me.
I want to move to SJ because I figure I could almost afford to live on my own combining my current rent with the money I spend on gas. But its easier said than done.

i have to drive everyday. so i just fill up at a cheap place and try not to think about it.

At the risk of being flamed here, and I don't mean any offense - but someone please explain to me what this tripping out is all about?
Dude the difference between gas at 3 vs. 4.20 bucks a gallon?
That's 15 bucks more a tank.
Even if you fill up twice a week like I do (and 500 miles is a LOT to drive) that's 120 more a month
As far as life expenses go that should be well within your safety margin for monthly expenses shouldn't it? I mean when food costs say 500, your rent is 500-1000+, you have insurance, etc. etc. etc. entertainment budget, budget to buy other crap, when iphone internet service is $60/month, $120 shouldn't be a huge dent on one's monthly budget?

because 120 a month = 1440. under the assumption that gas stays fixed at the price it is now, which we all know wont be true.
and because gas was priced so much cheaper not too long ago

If you have to drive a lot, the cost of gas is a big deal, it cuts down how much money you have to spend on luxuries and stuff that you enjoy.
I mean the monetary impact it has on our country is HUGE, I don't see how you could think that it's just people "tripping out", but thats just my opinion. Also another concern is there seems to be absolutely nothing that will offer relief or turn this problem around.......
so 4.25 is cool for you, but what about 8 bucks? then is it going to be a problem???? I mean it'd different for every person............
i gave a guy 1 gallon of gas for free at the station, as he was bumming gas because he didn't have enough to get home.

Unfortunately, I have a daily commute of about 50-60 miles a day but driving slow is helping. I usually get about 280 miles before my Emergency tank but I got up to 310 miles last night without it going off and I just decided to fill up to be safe. $58.00 =(
