Stereo Upgrade
I am looking to get some better sound in my car. Looking to do something with a cleaner and louder sound than my stock system. Not looking to add a sub, so looking for a decent bass response without one if i can. Only requirement for the deck is that it i can hook the ipod into it. I am over my radio-contraption that i have been using for years now. And i dont need nor want anything crazy. input would be greatly appreciated

A setup that's easy to find for a reasonable price is an Alpine headunit (their iPod interface is fast and intuitive) and pick up some Polk db speakers or at least Alpine Type S's all around. Those should be slim enough to fit inside the doors of a WRX with little to no modification, no problem. By "modification", I mean speaker spacers to increase clearance so the magnets don't rub against the window or prevent it from rolling down all the way. Some of the speakers that require a deeper fitment would need those. That should yield a nice clean sound without getting too elaborate with the install. Getting an amp to power those aftermarket speakers would be ideal since the head unit won't have nearly enough power to use the speakers' potential.

you're gonna need an amp.
if you read any of my posts here or the stereo forum, this is my tactic:
2 kickass speakers up front
a single 10" kickass subwoofer
a 3-4 channel kickass amplifier to power all the speakers.
remember stereo is still king. you really dont need rear speakers. it tends to drag the image to the rear.
as for a head unit, this is the wildcard. you can go mild... and of course wild. and this can blow the budget.
