A 23-year-old visitor from the East Coast had just gotten money from an ATM when he told his friend on a cell phone that he had a bad feeling about two men approaching him at the Fruitvale BART Station in Oakland...

Gonzalez's father, Javier Gonzalez, said Friday that his son had cried out for his parents and sister when he burst into his home on San Leandro Street. He died there.
Javier Gonzalez sobbed at the loss of his son, who worked with him in his roofing business and at Oakland Raiders games.
"I'm angry at both of them," he said of the robbery victim and Veliz. "They took my son away from me. He was a hard-working kid."
He added, "My son is dead. I want somebody to pay for this."

What a moron. Pay for what. Although, I will not be surprised when the lawsuit surfaces...more people looking for handouts. Hard working? I guess robbing someone at knife point is pretty difficult.

Sad thing is he will probably win some form of compensation, totally lame how the legal eagles work out here. Seems to me you pull a weapon on someone and you get what's coming to you eventually in this instance it happened sooner rather than later at least there's a couple of old ladies walking around a little safer today.

I'm all for peoples' rights. But my theory is that when you infringe on someone else's rights to the point of robbing them with a weapon, you effectively waive all of your rights. His body should be tossed in the city dump and then it can all be over with. No mourning, no news coverage. Dump it and continue on.
