Think about getting a battery charger also. They're useful for providing a trickle charge for vehicles that aren't used often and can also jump start your car when needed.

They are great batteries just very heavy. 45 or 50lbs if I remember correctly. If your worried about weight then I would look elsewhere like Deka.

This is true. It's really just about a choice on the purpose of the car, and how annoyed you want to be. If you don't want to have to worry about the battery or think about it at all for the next 8 or so years, Die Hard Platinum. I used to run lightweight batteries in all of my cars, mostly the lighter ones, but they either need a trickle charger (battery-tender works great) or they need to be driven around once a week or so. After having to get a jump on my Justy again, I just decided to swap out the light battery for a normal one and now, yes, you can tell a difference with that huge lump in front of the driver's front tire, but - it starts every time. When I start worrying about maintaining 2x the speed limit in my Justy on Sharp Park again, I will swap back to the light battery.

Best bet would be, get the Die Hard, and get a remote battery kit from Summit, and stick that funk in your trunk.

Don't buy into the weight of battery stuff. You are not a pikes peak racer or running the drags in 9 seconds. Its not going to make enough of a difference for you.

Thats funny you mention Sharp park rd, since i drive that every day and thats where i can really feel weight/suspension changes going downhill.

To the OP, I can tell you that when I reduced 37lbs off the nose of my car it made a noticeable difference on downhill turns where all the weight is forward. You will have to drive the car once a week like wombat mentions for them to hold their charge and it is less reliable for sure. Just depends on what your after. Reliability go with a normal battery, if weight/handling is top priority look at other options.

OP: This is just not true, and especially so for your car. With just a lightweight battery and a JDM front bumper in my '01 2.5RS, even my wife noticed a difference in the car's eagerness to turn in, and the way it made the steering feel lighter. That car was similar to yours, but heavier with it's fancy dress, boot-mounted salad bar, and meat-based interior. The car was bone stock except for 225/50-16 S0-3's on the stock wheels.

Removing weight from in front of the front wheels makes a difference that you can feel, but it is less so the heavier a car is.

The truth of the matter is that this difference does come with downsides, and that is in the area of battery reliability and overall annoyance. When I was younger, these things mattered. Now, I would much rather have a little less handling prowess to know my car will start every time - but this was not always the case. The choice is yours.

Ha, I have spent a bit of time swapping parts at the Golf Course so I could go do a few more runs to compare. Had friends ferry an Impreza or Justy to be able to do back-to-back comparisons (different suspension on same car, etc). Used it to commute every day, miss it every day. The only problem with that road are the people that are afraid of it, and think you should be too (you know the ones, shakily barely maintaining the speed limit, constantly checking the mirrors... find the windshield and just drive!).

I always wished there would be a way to arrange a rally on that road, though of course I know that would not be possible in this day and age. Can you imagine? Take a Saturday, block it off top/bottom, pay a fee to support PD on-site, no racing but compare times, oh man.

this.

its no perfomance mod, it doesn't make your car look better, so theres no need to drop a ton unless you need to.

Go to sears, get one, they are around $200 but, they are an AGM battery, fully sealed, made by odyssey with a grey plastic rather than their stock line black with red. However, unlike the odyssey namebrand line, the sears ones come with a 4 year no questions asked replacement, and 4 year prorated replacement after that (so 8 years total) where as odyssey only has a 1 year.
I like the sounds of that.

Maybe a relocation kit to the trunk with that.

I don't care about the weight so much... just my 50-50 crossweight! :P

I lied... I totally care about the weight.

Always been a fan of Interstate. Had a Die Hard go out on me back in 97-98 literally 2 weeks after buying it. Switched to Interstate from then on in multiple vehicles. Not a single battery issue encountered since.
