Stage 2 & Stuff

some questions for you guys. I have done plenty of reading, but am seeing a lot of contradicting information online. I'd like to hear preferrably from 08+ GRs

I have a 2013 WRX.

Putting on my catted divorced downpipe today w/ cobb AP v3

I'm planning to get an intake as well and do a protune at the end of the week at GST.

What Intake do you guys recommend for my car? I have heard mix things about some restricting power/making the engine feel like it lost power etc..

Anyone can chime in with their own experience? CAI? Airbox?

Also, as far as my tune at GST, recommendations on A/F ratio? PSI? Etc? I don't want to go to aggresive.. just wanted to get everyone's thoughts and again if you have an 08+ please chime in as that is the most relevant!

Thanks

Have you contacted Mike and asked him about intakes for your car?

It's generally accepted that the Cobb sf intake with box is not very good (I have one). Intake temperatures are quite high, although it does drop quickly once the car gets moving. If I had a choice to do things again, I would choose the aem intake or something very similar as the filter sits inside the fender well, and you can also mod the fog light to route cooler air. It's also not as loud as the Cobb. The Cobb is pretty noisy frankly. It made me skip getting a bov. Contrary to what a lot of "experts" say, aftermarket intakes do allow the car to breathe better, and there is a definite albeit small gain in power. Can you spend the money elsewhere? Definitely.

Go with AEM or any cold air intake tbh. The short rams with boxes are microwaves. This is coming from a person that had the Cobb sf intake and multiple CAI's. AEM will give you a nice little bump in power in the midrange and upper RPM. Pre-2008's usually don't benefit much from intake however the 08+ WRX/STi's gain in the midrange.

^^This. Or just not get one and spend it on something else.
Although you do get the cool "sounds effects" from the turbo "PPPPSHHHHH"

Cobb's intake is way to loud, especially if you're going up hill, youll never hear the end of it.

But the design is pretty cool doe. Lol

Here's my question.. are the lower intake temperatures worth the possibility of driving through a puddle in the winter time? Im currently running the stock airbox, but want to upgrade to something that'll amplify my turbo spool. since my car is low, i always planned on a short ram intake to be safe. Afterall, the stock intake heats up quite quicky in the summer time.
Can anyone share their experience with actual intake temp value comparison?

I picked up my car during the winter monsoon rains we got in San Jose in '10. Even with CAI, I was never in any danger of a hydrolock. It just flat out doesn't rain enough here. There may be a backed up gutter here and there but if you're mindful of where you drive you can easily avoid them.

AP/AEM Intake was one of my very first mods. In hindsight, if I were to do it again I would probably skip the CAI and immediately start swapping out bushings (Group N all the way around).

I'd strongly recommend against a CAI of any brand unless you have you of these with it:

AEM Air Bypass Valve for Cold Air Intakes - Prevents Hydro-lock

Why? Homeboy here hydrolocked recently because he didn't have one - in San Jose, on a city street mind you. You never think that kind of thing's gonna happen, but when it do, you'll be glad you had one.

Unsure about GR's, but on GD's, the stock intake is said to be good to 350 wheel horse.

I have the Cobb sf with the box and intake temps are cooler than the stock box most the time. It is one loud suna***** though which I like except when you're barely gassing it and it sounds like a jet. then the person next to you thinks you're trying to race....

Good advise.

Any preference between the Perrin, AEM, or Injen CAIs?

Interesting, anyone else have any experience with running an air bypass valve?

Seriously. Skip the CAI or just go with AEM. I'm fairly certain Injen doesn't do CARB.
