how much do u weigh? i was able to keep the spring from shooting out just by merely pressing the top strut hat with my hand...and i'm only 145lbs...

subaru stock suspensions definitely DO NOT SHOOT out unlike honda suspension..

if you're installing aftermarket lowering springs, then you don't need spring compressors.

if you're desperate, get a set from Harbor Freight: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...temnumber=3980

Sears has them as well for about 4x the cost as harbor freight:

Due to the design of Subaru suspension, we have much lower spring rates for our cars. So, they shouldn't shoot out like Hondas.

if they're stock springs you don't need one to take stuff apart but to put the new springs on you may.

Just be safe. You can do it without it but why risk it. Go to kragen and rent some for $6.

are you serious? Down here (Monterey) its $44 and you get 100% back. I'd talk to the manager of the autozone where you are because its supposed to be free tool rental. Otherwise go to Kragens
