Wow, thanks a lot guys. It means a lot for all of you to be so kind. I will keep you guys updated and I'll post some before after pictures of my back. My left shoulder is higher than my right, one leg is longer than the other, my hips are uneven, my ribs are also rotated, it's not just a curve, the rotation of the spine is the painful part. My ribs stick out of my right back, and my left side sticks out from the front, so whenever I sit, all the pressure it put on the right side of my ribs. I don't take any medication, I can't play sports without my back throbbing or being in pain, and gym has been hell for the past weeks, I can't even lift as much as I use to from the pain.

I hope it all goes well and I can finally live like a 19 year old is suppose to, painfree. The thing that sucks is I have to go back to college in 4 weeks....ehhh I'm a little worried about that.

Dude, don't scare me. I'm 6'4 and already look lanky, I don't need to be 6'9 lol. I might gain 1/2-1". I hope nothing more than that, it depends on how straight the surgeon can correct it though.

Thanks everyone!

Don't plan on doing much of anything for the next 4 months or so. I'd recommend getting an egg crate mattress putting it on top of your main mattress, any extra padding helps. You might want to practice getting in an out of bed before you go in, what I always did is log roll so my side was along the edge of the bed and kick my legs down and pushed up with my arms to sit up with the back completely straight.

Also make sure there's something to grab on to for when you go to the bathroom, the 6-8" drop of sitting on the toilet is MURDEROUS! If you don't have a countertop to hold on to, install a handle bar near it.

Also, make sure you have a really comfy chair to sit in, a high back wing chair works best because any bending/slouching of the back kills. I used to sleep upright in a chair a lot, because it hurt less than to lay down.

I hope you the best, but just be happy in the fact that in less than a year you'll be painfree. I'll keep you in my prayers man.
You had three surgeries for your spine!? What were they for? Scoliosis or something else? I don't have any pads on the bed, but I will try to find one at costco or something because I keep hearing the same exact advice about those. I have a counter to the left side of the toilet, I will put a rail or something on the right side so I don't risk falling. I have a nice high back wing chair to use if I need to sit in my room. I will keep that in mind about sleeping in it, I can just add pillows/blanket and It will be good. Yeah, I hope I'm off pain meds within the first month and able to return to school not being drugged out of my mine and walking like an alcoholic lol. I will bring a pillow with me for those hard *** desks and leave early/come late so it's not crowded. It's going to be tough, but the pain I am in daily now, is seriously the worst thing I've ever had, it drains my energy cause I'm in so much pain, I can't do much without feeling incredibly tired.

I have scoliosis and all of the same rotational bone problems, my ribs stick out in the front and I have one shoulder higher than the other still. They caught mine early so they put in the rods and lengthened them as I got older and then they did a fusion when my insurance was going to run out, I actually should've been a few inches taller, but never got to them due to residual curvature. I had two curves though one thoracic and one lumbar so mine was a bit worse, thanfully they caught it early.

Don't plan on being off pain meds in 1 month, it took me 2 months and I was younger. Take it easy because the healing process sets the standard for the rest of your life, don't be too eager to go out and do stuff right away, let it heal properly or you will regret it.

I'd also recommend putting said wing chair near your computer and/or tv cause you'll spend a lot of time there. There's a good cushion you can buy from the relaxtheback store which will fill in gaps that most chairs have, it'll make life a lot easier.

Yeah, I only have Lumbar, but my rib hump is pretty nasty. My back is always sore and feels extremely tight. Who was your doctor? I'm not trying to start doing crazy things, but surgery was suppose to be on the 16th, but they needed the OR for transplant patients, so it got moved to the 28th. I just lost 12 days of my recovery time. 4 weeks I'll be back in school part time (3 days a week) and 5 weeks I'll be in full time (5 days a week) most days are 1-2 classes and are 2-3 hours long, and then I'm done. The 2 day classes have breaks, so I can go home, eat, rest, nap, w/e.

I want to get the 53 to under 20, i'll be happy from that correction. And I want my rib hump to disappear it's so embarrassing.

Also, the thing about getting off pain meds in 1 month is just a guesstimate, I won't force myself to be off of them. It's just I hear a lot of stories about teens getting off pain meds in less than a month and back to school full time in a month. I only have T9-L3 to be fused (short fusion) and I gym daily/am young, so hopefully that will be in my favor. Hopefully everything will work out. I wish I can fast forward 5 months lol.

My doc was Dr. King in Los Angeles, he's a orthopedic/spinal surgeon medical director for Children's Hospital down there. My rib hump got better but didn't disappear, there are certain corset type braces you can get which make it better though.

Good luck through your surgery, if you have any further questions feel free to PM me. What hospital are you getting it done at?

Oh, Dr. King, didn't hear about him before. I also heard from many people it doesn't disappear, but it gets better. I guess it's like the curve, they correct as much as possible, but not perfect.
I will PM you if anything pops up, thanks a lot. I'm getting it done @ Stanford.

Yeah, I will set up the Wii/PS2/PS3 to my room lol. I have computer games as well and I have my laptop for a lot of TV shows/movies. I hope I can be able to even do all these things without being in pain. Anyways, thanks again for everything. I have my parents, brother, and sister willing to help for errands, no need to have any thing from other people, just your luck and prayers please.

Stanford, but I don't know the room number yet. I am not in the hospital, I will be in the hospital Monday morning @ 5:30 AM. Really, there is no need to visit, I will be on so many drugs I will be sleeping 18 hours a day. I won't even remember the people that came or the 4-5 days I'm in there, I will post up and let everyone know how I do though as soon as I can. Thanks a lot for everything guys, I really appreciate it!

Best of luck. My friend had shoulder surgery (after having it separated on 3 occasions in the past 6 years, it was time to fix it). He said the best investment he's made was buying the most bad *** lazy boy chair he could afford because for a while, he had to sleep in it because of the shoulder. Always a good idea to be super comfortable during post-surgery when you're home.
