Unhappy Spilled a can of soda in my back seat...

I just emptied half a can of ginger ale in my back seat. So as I type this the spot is baking in the sun in my parking lot at work. I tried to soak up as much as I could with paper towels, but I'm pretty sure it'll be niiice and sticky when I leave in a few hours.

Can anyone recommend any good spot removers? I've also got some gunky hair product residue on the passenger head rest. I've got some simple green or the wanna be stuff from costco, but is that safe to use on the seats and headrest? I read about using simple green for removing stuff on the carpets is OK but for the seats???

any suggestions or products that have worked will be appreciated. Damn, I can see my car from the window...sucks.

That sucks, when my wife and I were still dating she went grocery shopping and a gallon of milk happened to find it's way behind her speakerbox. I found out a couple months later in 100+ degree weather when it decided to open its self.

Read the label on the Simple Green bottle. I once used it to get grease ( ) off a twill light colored jacked of mine and it seemed to work ok, it might fade a black seat though. I would double check by just reading the bottle.

Try soaking it good with water and push REALLY hard with a terry towel to get all the water out. You might want to think of getting it professionally cleaned.

I got my seats insured... Teflon coated Everything just rolls right off.

for carpets the BEST stuff is called Folex. They sell it at Home Depot next to the carpet cleaners. I've seen it take permanent marker off a carpet before. Seat fabric may be a little different, and I don't think you have a stain, you probably just have sticky/dirty. Water should be fine alone. I'd just wet it down and coin vac/shop vac it dry.

Do you have aftermarket seats that came with teflon on them or did you do it yourself? And if you did, what did you use? Sounds like one of the most funcional mods that could be done.

Most Fabric, window coverings, or upholstery shops can do it for you. My Grandpa has an upholstery shop so he did it for me for free. He charged my friend a REALLY good deal of $75.00. It's normally around a few hundred. I would get a phone book and just call around. i would offer my Family's services but they are all the way in Santa Barbara

Edit: To think of it... I could easily bring the Teflon can sprayer thing up here and do a group buy if there was enough interest, I've done it a few times and it's really easy, it's just really expensive stuff. Anyone??

A couple of cans of Scotchguard will provide a nice teflon coat. Do they still sell that stuff? I think it was pulled for a while because of the carcinogenic effects.

I would rent a steam cleaner. Its the best way to break up the sugar/sticky stuff without adding more stuff to your fabric. You can get one of those steam cleaners (not really a steam cleaner though) at the local grocery store with the hose attachment. Just use really hot water and no soap.

I was talking to a professional carpet cleaner, and he says that the reason carpets get dirty really soon after using carpet products is that the residue attracts more dirt (the job of the product), and while its in your carpet, it gets dirtier.

best advice.

what's the seat anyways? foam covered with fabric.

might wanna use distilled water.

then make sure it dries after getting as much water out of it.

now look underneath it at the all the metal stuff like the springs, metal hooks, etc. if needed light spray with like wd-40 or some non smelling lubricant... try to avoid the foam...

Hook it up! I think I'll clean all the seats and spray it with something to protect if a group doesn't get together on this. I was in shock when it was spilling. I just kinda stood there for a half second before I realized OMFG!

i'll try dousing it with water and soaking it up with a towel and hopefully that will remedy the problem.
