I was under the impression that even cops in CA can't buy hi cap mags for their own personal use. Everything has to go thru the dept.

A peace officer can get high capacity magazines and certain guns that normal California citizens can't get, as long as they buy it with a department letterhead.
Multiple Berkely SWAT guys bought FN FiveSeven pistols for their off duty guns. Several Vallejo P.D. officers did the same.
One thing that concerned me about the 5.7 X 28 is the velocity from the FiveSeven's barrel. Sort of like a .22 Hornet. Shot placement is the key, but I'd rather fire the 5.7 X 28 from the P90's barrel (1,971 fps vs. 2330 fps) . I've shot jack rabbits with this round and it did it's job, but it wasn't as spectacular as nailing them with a 5.56 X 45 or with the 6.8 SPC.
Fun to shoot......like the AMT .22 mag AutoMag!

Yeah, he's in LE. He got it from a friend (same station) who didnt need it or wasnt using it or something like that. I had no idea the 20rnd mags were illegal, haha. About the letter by the Chief, I'm not sure if they needed one for this handgun if i remember correctly. I know my dad is getting a letter for an ar-15 right now though.

My buddy just got one a little while ago. Kind of a boring gun to shoot. But, it is accurate. No recoil. 20rd mag is awesome. Kind of cluncky...not good for off duty carry.

I am curious about something. If a person bought a AR pre-ban, but never registered it under the assault weapon law, what can happen? I have been told they have do not have to be re-registered under this thing. The reason I am curious is that I know someone who has a AR but never registered it, and I want to have him take me to shoot it at a range, but I don't wanna get him in trouble. Any ideas?
BTW, one is a colt sporter and the other is a Dalphon B.F.D. if that helps
