Dont try this at home kids! Matter of fact dont know what made them think to try this? 
This is what happens when you fire steel core rounds againts steel/iron, I found this out the hard way too, though it wasnt this close a call!
The sound of it coming back is the best part!

....um yea, wouldn't it be common sense not to you steel core on iron? If you're gonna shoot iron use d/u rounds....but I must admit the watermelon one, I'd crap myself! LOL!

ya Ive seen his other stuff, but that was clearly not CGI, watch it again, that was a def a real watermelon exploded off the top of his head. Not to say though that he couldnt have just used a small charge in the watermelon I suppose, but we all should be able to tell CGI from real at this point.

He even has online tutorials on how to do these kind of effects which is pretty cool. He makes it all look so damn easy!

That may well indeed be a watermelon being shot by a .50, but there's no way that he himself was in the same space and time when that happened.
