so many cool things so little money!

i am getting one i swear...

it comes with linux but can handle xp no problem.
2gb and 4gb solid-state flash drive options (small yes but its not meant to be a powerful device)
and 512mb of ram which i am sure is upgradeable to 1gb but doubt thats necessary.

http://www.directron.com/eeepc4gsurfb.html

$50 less ($299) for the model with 2gb of flash storage.
but since it does have a built in card reader you could just buy a 2gb or 4gb SD card and put your music and what not on there.

i must get one of these! i wanted an ipod touch for the portability of it, with the wifi, but this isn't too much bigger and offers full computer function at the same price.

perfect setup as a tiny portable laptop... perfect for travel and business people who need a more powerful business contact/internet/email device.

although i wish they would have marked it up a little bit more and threw a centrino core 2 duo in it.. or at least offered it as an option.. but i guess that would just take it out of that "OMG that is so cheap" price range

it doesn't have a harddrive technically..

its running solid state.. meaning something similar to the memory card you put in your digital camera.

why does it need XP? it comes with linux lol. and 1gb... after playing with the one my buddy got, isn't necessary... its running such minimal stuff 512mb is fine.

^^there is an extended battery coming out that will give it 8 hours of battery life!!!! thats gonna be awesome.

after playing with my friend's little asus, i definitely want one. it would be perfect for school and to have it in my backpack being lugged around without much worry of breaking as it is so damn small and the plastic shell is so solid.

That thing is like buying a STi with no interior and an RS motor with 14 inch steelies.

512mb or ram is just useless.. if it a 2G ram and a internal HD then I would be all over it.

^^wow. so you are ignoring the whole idea behind it i guess.
its not meant to be a powerhouse. why on EARTH would you need 2gb of ram when running linux on such a simple machine?

and uuhhhh solid state harddrive FTW dude. it HAS an internal harddrive... its 2gb and 4gb flash. you can buy an 8gb SD card and stick that in the side slot for the expanded storage. the concept behind not having a normal harddrive is to give you better battery life, and you don't have to worry about dropping the computer and the harddrive dying.

but its not meant to be a work horse. its supposed to sit right between a hand held PDA and a laptop.

can you explain to me how 512mb ram is useless? most people do not need 1gb let alone 2gb. only people who need 2gb are windows vista users, photoshop/video/graphic enthusiasts.. all things that this little system is not meant for.

512mb is fine, but you can upgrade it to 1gb which is nice if you wanna run ubuntu on it.

with the linux distro it comes with 512mb is more than enough.

if you want it to be faster, have more ram, have a bigger harddrive then you can go and buy a tiny sony, or sharp laptop for 2000-3000 dollars.

and no your analogy doesn't work.

this is like buying a 2.5rs instead of an STi because you do not need it to be a race car.

All you guys are failing to see the concept here.

It's not about having 2 gigs of ram, its about be super tiny and achieving what needed.

Yeah that smart car would be totally awesome if you just like added a 500hp v8, and a beefy chrome bumper, maybe expanded to hold 20 people...............

you see where i'm going with this.

This isn't a machine for you to play half life on.

^^thank you

its more meant to be portable internet, music, and email without having to resort to an ipod which has a much smaller screen/crappy keyboard.

its not meant to be a gaming machine.
