I can't say for sure- this is only a guess, but it might be that because of all the complicated plumbing to the intercooler and all- that having only one fill point left someplace where an air bubble would get trapped, when temp gets up to operating levels, an air bubblein the cooling path can be a bad thing.

Again, I'm just guessing.......... anyone else have an idea?

Yep. And I don't post *****, I'm just active.

Daredevil: TRUST ME, Subaru has designed a car that is so driver friendly to work on! It's easy to change the oil, tranny lube, gear lube... Change spark plugs (just to move some things out the way first). Your ability to access things are waaaay easier than any other car that's new. Try changing oil on a 1.8T VW, or a 97 Ford Taurus, Or a 91 POS Dodge Van. Be grateful people in subaru are looking out! Draining the coolant is the last thing i would think of when it comes to general matenince.

oh, the reason why you have a remote coolant place is it's placement near the turbo, since the turbo is water cooled (in addition to oil cooled/lubed), and then you got the regular cap on the radiator itself.

Drain the coolant by removing the lower radiator hose. Fast, simple, easy. Drains the radiator and the block and leave the little plug alone.
